PERSONALITY

| Adventurous | Patient | Transparent | Stoic |

| Haughty | Obstinate | Callous | Selfish |

Over the last 200 years, Yulia has learned that the only constant in the world is change. Given her age and wealth of experiences, she has been desensitized to events such as losses and tragedies. Duly accepting them as a part of life, her comments and outlook often give off the impression that she is unsympathetic or downright cold. It is also in due part to her age and travels that she sees herself above most individuals she meets. For Yulia, experience is the greatest indicator of an individual’s intellect. Thus despite being well-traveled, the only people she sees as equals are older elves due to their longer lifespan.

For the majority of her long life, Yulia has only ever had to look out for herself, resulting in her actions to be driven solely by her own self-interest and goals. Viewing others as a liability, she’s not especially keen on giving out aid unless there’s something to be gained. Her decisions are concrete and absolute. With a “my way or the highway” mindset, attempts to change Yulia’s mind are futile. As a result, her obstinance is what allows her to break through countless obstacles, but it is also a poignant source of conflict and regret.

As a stoic, Yulia expresses outward emotional strength which makes her a reliable and level-headed source of comfort in troubled times. However, she is not stoic in the sense that she is taciturn, but rather that she carries the ability to shoulder her pain and misfortune without flinching. Despite her external disposition, even she is not immune from developing unhealthy coping mechanisms in exchange for internalizing her wounds. Contrasting her aloof demeanor, Yulia displays tendencies of an adrenaline junkie. In an effort to remember what it’s like to feel alive, Yulia consistently bets with her money or well being in questionable or downright dangerous gambles. The higher the stakes, the better. Despite her lack of fear and ability to pull through, her sense of adventure is borderline destructive.

Beyond her vices, Yulia has developed an inexhaustible amount of patience culminated from centuries worth of work and personal experiences. No amount of time and effort can deter her from her goals, and those close to her find themselves blessed with numerous chances and a tireless supporter. However, Yulia doesn’t mince her words and can be as sharp as she is patient. While her transparency is her way of showing respect, she comes off as malicious due to her lack of consideration for others’ feelings and inappropriate timing.

Unfortunately, being an elf doesn’t automatically mean she radiates with elegance and allure. With a cynical laugh, Yulia can admit she is far from the grandiose ideal of her kind that leaves other races awestruck.

HISTORY

A blue blood elf born and raised, Yulia follows in the footsteps of her forefathers to a T, adopting their scholastic worldview as her own. Despite her extensive education in the magic arts, Yulia’s peak interest of study is monster zoology. Magic was predictable, monsters were not. The thrill of working with wild beasts and putting her life on the line for the sake of knowledge enraptured Yulia in her impressionable years.

During her first century, Yulia was content with the ho-hum of traveling across the globe to different dungeons and journaling her findings to build her name.

Her ambitions came to a pause when she met a special human. They eventually wed and had a baby boy. However, her contentment was short-lived when her husband and baby perished. Yulia had known she would outlive her loved ones, but their sudden deaths were just far too cruel. Her loss was the catalyst that redirected her back to her studies in an attempt to numb her pain.

Now an esteemed academic professor, Yulia boasts noteworthy achievements in the field of monster zoology as a published author and leading field researcher. During one of her expeditions, she happened upon a video camera in a human shop. The ability to capture the movements of its subject and preserve the memory in a tangible form struck a chord with her.  All she had to remember her late husband's face by was a faded sketch. The video camera was a sign that the times were changing.

Believing that video recordings would add a new layer of depth to her research and revolutionize elven academia, Yulia integrated the tool into her work. In the coming years, she filmed a series of short monster documentaries to present to her peers. However, such method of documentation wasn’t too well received by her elder peers and was dismissed as a passing fad. Besides, why should they rely on human tools when their magic was far superior?

It appears that after all the years of gambling with death to study the world’s most elusive creatures, the biggest roadblock in Yulia’s career was self-important, senile old fools.

Disappointment transformed into an epiphany as Yulia realized there wasn’t room for her progressive visionary ideas in elven high society. Unfazed by the risks, she bid goodbye to her comfortable life and established career in exchange for the opportunity to freely travel and film the world’s creatures with the intention of sharing her knowledge to less educated populations.

She made a modest living holding workshops and screenings featuring her documentaries in isolated villages and small towns. Humans and hybrids alike were fascinated at seeing such exquisite creatures up close without the risks involved. As the years passed the video camera grew smaller and evolved to capture color and sound, making her work easier.  However, business stalemated as other forms of entertainment seeped its way into even the most remote villages. Times were changing, which meant she had to change to.

A peculiar advertisement for a “Toffee Town” found its way into Yulia’s hands at a crossroads during her travels. Initially disinterested, it wasn’t until she scanned the job listings that Yulia finally felt that her years of patience and effort would be rewarded. A job opening at a news station was exactly the opportunity she needed to have her films reach a wider audience and break into the television industry.

With nothing to lose from this questionable offer, Yulia caught the ferry to Toffee Town determined to learn the skills and forge the connections necessary to build a network to showcase her research and films.

ADDITIONAL INFO

  • May or may not have a gambling problem.

  • The circumstances surrounding her family's death over 150 years ago is still a taboo topic for Yulia despite the amount of time that has passed.

  • “W is for Wooly” is a fun interactive book for younglings featuring finger puppets that educate the reader about the monsters of the world from A-Z written was the first book Yulia wrote!

  • She is not opposed to hunting monsters and openly admits to working with hunters, trappers, and game masters.

  • Yulia has picked up a myriad of skills necessary to succeed (and survive) in her line of work such as observational drawing, swordsmanship, and animal tracking.

  • The first video camera model she encountered and bought resembled a Bell & Howell 2709 35mm. She now currently works with a 1970's videocorder.

  • Learned to maneuver her cameras with levitation magic resulting in smooth camera work and astonishing angles.

  • Yulia spends her free nights at a bar to write in a journal. Whether to drink or just think, the older elf is trapped in an earlier time.

  • A frequent patron of the Chocolatier Chapel, she can be found in the chapel in the morning before work and on the weekends.*

  • If she reeks of cigarettes, it's typically a sign she had a bad day or spent too much time in memory lane.*

  • Her favorite monster is a Mamadoodle. It's like a chicken... only bigger and can kill you. But you can also ride it if you're brave!*

  • Her elemental magic affinity is fire. Is not responsible for any recent firey mishaps :squints:*

*NEW!!! ( Also means I forgot to add when I first made the app :screamcry: )
