Description Cipactli are massive crocodylomorphs that live in the Grand Redwoods lakes and rivers. They are considered one of the largest and if not the most dangerous creatures in all of the Chimera isles.

DESCRIPTION

Cipactli, named after the Aztec sea monster with the same name, are massive semi aquatic reptilians closely related to Alligators. They stand at roughly 2 meters in height, 21 metres in length and weigh 40 tons. They are a dark black with a yellow underside as well as lighter grey armour. Like their relatives, they have four short legs and thick scaly skin and armour. Their size has made them the largest crocodylomorph to ever exist. Nostrils are placed on the top of their snouts and triangular brows cover the animals eyes.

ECOLOGY

Like their relatives, the Cipactli hatch underground and are excavated by their mothers after hearing their cries. They will be carried by her jaws to a water body and protected by her from predators that would attempt to eat the hatchlings. This would include some medium sized mammals, Cerallosaurus, Utahsaurus and Piscarychus. While the mother will protect the babies she will not feed them. At this time the hatchlings will feed on some insects, small mammals, birds and fish. After two years the hatchlings will have grown large enough to fend for themselves and leave as the mother maternal instincts wear off.

As the hatchlings continue the grow their prey will gradually get larger feeding on large juvenile Dinosaurs as well as medium sized animals. Cipactli usually eat the 5 ton lumbering Limnosuchus as they are slower and generally defenceless against their massive jaws. Naturally, the Cipactli while form together in groups at in larger bodies of water and hunt together to bring down larger prey like Magouloceratops, Gigacephalosaurus And Bastionosaurus.

Just like other crocodilians, Cipactli death roll their large prey with jaws full of crushing teeth and twist chucks of flesh and limbs apart. It is estimated that the bite of a Cipactli alone is around 60,000 pounds of force. At first this number seems extreme but consider that the Deinosuchus had a bite force of around a maximum of 20,000 pounds of force and the the Cipactli are roughly twice their size. During mating season, Male Cipactli will let out low frequency bellows and vibrations to attract a mate.

If he is lucky enough to achieve this the pair will breed and in the males territory the female will lay her eggs for new hatchling to be born. While the male Cipactli does secure the territory for a time he had little to no concern about the hatchlings themselves and some reports claim that males have occasionally eating their own offspring.

INTERACTION WITH HUMANS

There should be without question or second thought absolutely no interaction with the Cipactli whatsoever! Researchers should stay away from large waterbodies in general and never approach these creatures. At first glance they seem to be incredibly slow but can lash out in quick bursts. If you are caught in a dangerous situation all we can offer you at this time is to run in a zig zagging pattern to throw the creatures off and pray your ranger doesn’t miss.

And this is the last species profiles that I will be making for the Grand Redwoods at this time. Next up I got a couple of stories in mind that I look forward to making. A couple of other projects may come along as well before I start another series which I have still yet to name. Originally, these guys were going to make their first appearance in chapter six of Outpost ten. Instead of the Piscarychus ( giant terrifying frigate bird) having the spotlight it would be a Cipactli, awoken from hibernation after being accidentally hit by the poachers boat and wreck havoc on the group. I ultimately cut this because while I loved the idea of giant alligators tearing up boats, the Piscarychus to me felt like a more unique creature and wanted to try something new. However, they were referenced a while back during my hilariously crazy wings of fire cross over story as well as the Piscarychus as ‘ Crocodiles big enough to eat Mudwings and flying beast faster then any Skywing.’ Hopefully I can get back to that story one day.

Anyways, thank you very so much for checking out my work. As always I hope you enjoyed and I look forward to making more in the future
