Description Shad tossed and turned while he slept.

He felt like he was running. The further he ran the clearer the dream became. Trees passed by him in a blur as he sprinted; never tiring as he leapt over logs and rocks. A cool breeze washed over him as he ran, the forest seemed so large and so alive.

As Shad slept, his body began to change. At first the changes were minor; a slight point in the ears, a twitch in the nose, and darker nails. As the young man dreamt, he continued to change. A few rogue hairs began to slowly start to cover his hands and feet. As the hairs multiplied, Shad had a plush coat of black fur covering half of his arms and legs.

He slowed his running and came to a stop. He could hear a stream nearby. He lifted his head and inhaled deeply, he could smell everything. He made his way toward the source of water and came across a small pond. He trotted up and looked down in the water. A small red fox stared right back at him. He tilted his head and watched the reflection for a moment before leaning down and lapping up some water.

By now, Shad’s finger and toenails had sharpened into fine canine claws. A mix of orange-ish fur had begun to cover the rest of his arms and legs. The same soft fur radiated out from his back as well; wrapping around to his chest and stomach and changing to a snow white. Shad’s nose had darkened, becoming rougher and more vulpine. His ears crept slowly up his skull; the tips growing sharp black fur as orange-red covered the base. The furry triangles swiveled as his dream continued.

The fox heard some rustling in the bushes. His ears perked up and he froze. He could hear the small creature moving around near him. Slowly he turned and lowered himself to the ground. He sniffed the ground and slowly padded toward the source of the rustling. Dinner. His sharp senses pinpointed the mouse moving around. He readied himself to pounce. Right as the mouse stopped moving, he leapt.

Shad’s body was covered in a soft coat of fox fur. His nose had pushed out into the proper pointed muzzle of the fox he was becoming. His new muzzle began to sprout fur just like the rest of him as his padded hands gripped the blanket. The heat from wearing a thick blanket coupled with his thick coat of fur was becoming too much. He opened his canine maw and let his tongue out. He panted and used a clawed foot to kick off the blanket partially. His legs ached as they began to turn more digigrade. He whined as he felt the bones crack and pop.

CRACK! The fox stopped eating his well-earned meal and looked up. His ears swiveled and perked at the sound of nearby gunfire. He grabbed what was left of the mouse and began to trot past the creek and deeper into the woods. He sniffed his surroundings and could smell his pursuers getting closer. He began to run, picking up speed and darting around obstacles. The cool wind brushed over his fur and tail as he moved between the trees. He felt alive, he felt like a true fox.

It was at this time, Shad began to grow what every fox coveted. His tail. The new appendage began to extend out of his backside; growing the same reddish-orange fur as the rest of him (albeit a lot longer and softer). His brush flicked and swished between his legs; causing the now-anthro fox some discomfort. He rolled onto his side and let his bushy tail curl over his furry legs.

Outrunning his pursuers, the fox padded into an open meadow. He found a nice spot near a small pool of water and sat down. Finishing his meal he yawned and curled up; placing his tail under his maw. He smiled as best a fox could and closed his eyes. The warmth of sun and the cool breeze felt exquisite. The fox drifted off to sleep as the human woke up.

Yawning, Shad opened his eyes and looked around his room. The sun was peeking through his window and he immediately felt something was off. He raised a hand and it through his hair. His padded paw-hand ran through his fur and brushed against his ear. Feeling this, he froze. He brought up his hands and his maw dropped open.

“W-W-WH-WHAT T-THE!?!”

Shad threw off his blanket to survey what happened. Soft fur covered him from head to paw; a bushy tail swished slightly along-side him as well. He grabbed his brush and yelped. Tilting his head, he felt his muzzle and ears. He jumped out of bed and wobbled uneasily on his changed legs. He whined and slowly made his way across his room. Timidly looking into his mirror, what he saw confirmed his initial suspicion. He was a fox. An anthropomorphic red fox to be exact. A handsome one at that. He stared at his reflection with disbelief.

‘D-D-Did the dream cause this..?’ he thought. Just then there was a knock at his bedroom door.

“Hey Shad, everything alright in there?”

Shad’s fox ears perked up at the sound of his roommate trying to open the door.

“U-Uh, y-yeah! Just fine!” His bushy tail swished happily behind him. Despite his initial surprise and concern, he felt amazing. He looked over his foxy body and smiled. “No wonder furries like foxes, this is fantas- YIP!” Embarrassed, Shad covered his muzzle and looked to the door. No response from his roommate. He laughed a bit to himself. His first yip! He truly was a fox! “T-this..this is- rrrao! *ahem* This is incredible…now…how to explain this to my roommates…”

Shad sat down on his computer and grinned; his bushy tail swished behind him and his ear flicked. “Always liked horses better, but this, this I can get used to!”
