Description Prop Name:
Gallian-A3 Rifle
Source:
Valkyria Chronicles (Sega)
Prop Notes:
It took me about a total of 2 months (2 hrs weekdays and 5 hrs weekends) to construct the rifle using the game and its artbook as reference. I made this mostly because I needed a rifle prop that was easier to carry around in cosplay (I included provisions for a shoulder strap). My secondary reason was I needed something to do with my first crappy rifle prop, so I used it as a base for this prop.
For this prop, I put extra effort into accuracy. Since the game gives you the actual length of the weapon, I was able to construct this gun to scale; I calculated the rest of the dimensions using simple ratios.
Like my Gallian-S20R, materials used to make it are colored paper, cardboard, foamcore, dowels, electric tape, white glue, and hot glue. Once again, the use of these materials keep it light, making it weigh no more than the average water bottle.

----

In-Game Weapon Specifications:
- Gallian-A Series Rifle
Caliber - 7.92mm
Clip Size - 5 shots

Designed to add stopping power to the Gallian's adaptable base, the Gallian-A also uses a water-based cooling system to ensure smooth rapid fire, uncommon in standard rifles.

The experimental system worked better than even its designers had expected, also enhancing firing accuracy.

The stock and other parts are identical to those used in the Gallian.

Also, one of the weirdest weapon i have ever seen, even
in a game.

Thanks.

And yes, I was at Fanime 2012. I'm amazed you managed to identify this weapon even though I did not carry it around for that long.

Wow, this is awesome!

Ever considered using resin to make these more rigid?

I would consider using resin if I ever figured out how to use it. Until then, I am stuck using paper and woodcraft.

If you made one of these rifles, then covered them in resin, and painted them they would be super durable.

One of these days, I resolve to make a real-life Gallian rifle in .30 NATO.

I will put a video of me firing it on Youtube, and then I will say:

"If a a Valkyria Chronicles fan is willing to put that much disposable income into making a working version of your game's rifle, why aren't you releasing more Valkyria Chronicles games in the west?"

I'd love to see that. I do wonder what it will take to make Sega do more with the Valkyria Chronicle series. Perhaps someone needs to make a life size Gallian Tank.

That'd actually be easier - if significantly more expensive. Most of the VC tank counterparts exist in mueseams and private collections, but converting a more numerous machine to look like the Edelweiss would be as easy as creating an Edelweiss-shaped shell for a stripped-down T-34 (see the Faux-Tigers from Kelly's Heroes).

Might be worth a kickstarter, perhaps...

This is SO AWESOME!! Do you think you could re-create it again? Absolutely beautiful, and accurate work!!

Thank you! Accurate, yes, but beautiful? Haha. I would rarely describe my works as beautiful.

And yes, I could recreate this, but like the original, it may take another 2 months.

It IS beautiful, the finish is great! I mean, this kind of prop is so hard to make! I've made a VCII antitank lance, but it certainly doesn't look like THIS!
