Description Some doodles and design notes. Still grinding away at exams and drawing always helps. We got Gangfield as a kid, probly around 14, and then we got Gangfield a little later on, a manifestation of which will show up and help Ruth learn some new secrets about the history of the Valiard Mansion.

I envy the way you are able to make your characters look a certain age without changing their overall face. I have trouble in that field, I tend to make my characters look like a totally different person when they're older and/or younger. Props to you! I'd definitely learn a lot from you if I studied your art techniques. haha

Durrrr, alsdkfjslaffff Your characters are such pretty people, not a single one is plain! xD beautiful, I love his design, it's like he's bad ass but at the same time sweet to the people he values <333


And ruth, she's a cutie! I absolutely love the whole spell/immortality idea too, like the owner dies, rat dies too thing, it makes the reader wonder if the dennis is taking care of him because he wants to survive or if he literally cares for him ^u^Β

Just a question...

I've been looking at this (all your drawings actually... ) for a while and the top left one got my attention...

You say Gangfield is around 14... Did he turn Dennis into a rat before he put the eternity spell on himself??

I thought it was the other way around... Β Or can he still age, but only to a certain age and then stop???

And did he put the same spell on Dennis??? Since Dennis is with him when he's 14 and a few hundred years later at the Valiard Mansion?

Gangfield is always the biological age he was when he cast the spell that caused his immortality. He met Dennis when he was quite young, so he didn't really think it through when he turned the poor fellow into a rat familiar.


The spell that turned Dennis into a familiar just binds him to Gangfield in a way that their lifetimes are linked. As long as Gangfield lives, or as long as Dennis is a rat, Dennis can't die.Β I just figured it would be a pretty cool and useful spell if it worked in such a way that if the master died, the familiar automatically died tooβ€”which would mean the familiar would do all in his power to keep his master alive.Β 


So when Gangfield became immortal afterwards, Dennis freeloaded on that spell, too. But Gangfield's always been sorry for it. The moment he finds a spell to free Dennis, he'll use it.


Thanks for taking an interest. I should really get off my bum and finish the next chapter, but I gotta get my final-year thesis in tomorrow, so all my writing energy is going into that! So much more boring than making up stories.

That is an awesome idea though...

But, one more thing... If/when Gangfield gets mortally wounded, does his heart actually stop for a while or will he just end up unconscious until he's fixed up?


How can I not be interested? It's an awesome story so far and I love the characters! Take your time on the next chapter (I'll just silently go crazy while waiting, just as I am for waiting for anything else... But that's okey... )

Good question! The more serious the wound, the faster it heals. Mortal wounds heal immediately up to a point that he'll at least survive. So Gangfield's papercuts and stubbed toes heal just as fast as ours, really. Β But it'll be explained in the chapters to come, promise.

I used a 0.5 HB mechanical pencil, a kneaded (putty) eraser and a normal solid eraser (not sure what you call those lol) on white printing paper. All my sketches are done traditionally like this, unless stated otherwise.

Yee-hup. I carefully erase and redraw 'till I'm happy. And a 0.5 pencil is great for teensy details, especially if you get a sharp edge on it!

You are simply amazing, and will probably be one of the reasons I'm going to work my bum off to improve myself!

I have followed you for a while (super long ago), and then disappeared for a year and a bit (maybe more, since I lost count), but then I come back (like a few days ago) to find all your awesome art and it makes me feel bad for being the lazy ass I am. I shall overcome my lazy condition!

It's super simple! I wanted more than one form of Gangfield in the story for like forever (because how else do you drive it home how old he really is?) and I finally figured out a way like a few days ago!

Valiard world logic runs on the idea that ghosts are memories, given enough time to physically manifest. What if you live long enough that your ghost haunts a place? And what if you can take the form of your own ghost? Gangfield basically finds a spell to do this. He expects to relive an old memory from his past, but instead he finds Ruth. So it turns out that he was actually more involved with the history of the Valiard Mansion than he could ever have suspected. But how? Why? Muahaha! You'll have to wait and see!!!!!

So yeah, it's just Victorian Gangfield in a totes retro geddup. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd have a "What on Earth was I thinking with this HAIR?" moment.

But yes, the hair is very fun to draw. Just gotta flatten it a bit. It's probly grimy and dirty.
