Description My very first stamp.

I was very sad to find out that there weren't any good degu stamps here on DA, so I went ahead and made my own. If you don't know what a degu is, look it up. They're related to chinchillas and guinea pigs, and I want one. Or two, really. One would be lonely.

So if you'd like a degu too, use this stamp! ^^

Degus are amazing! I only have one though, b/c he was left alone while his sibling were sold. :/
But he's very nice and love people, he seriously could climb on anyone all day. ^^

I got one girl, poor thing has been through so much, she doesn't even like any degus since her sister died :c She loves humans though, well unless you try to take her from the cage XD

She is, she's pretty good hand trained too c: My cute little trooper made it though her sister dying, giving birth to a litter, getting her part of her tail ripped off when she was pregnant with the second litter, having a miscarriage, and some more but it gets kinda gruesome, let's just say she had all still borns and one got stuck...:c After that miscarriage she went into shock and couldn't make her own body heat and I had to hold her for like 3 hours until she would eat or drink again she really scared me! But she's alive and well now :3

Degu's are awesome! I got 4 of them now (one's rescued)
They seem to slowly but surly be getting more and more popular ^__^
They are lovely little things, very curiouse and nice natured and lots of fun.
Although they do need rather a large chew proof cage as the can chew out of plastic bottoms and have a very strict no sugar diet since like chinchillas they are very prone to getting diabetic

Awwwww. I seriously want some. I've been reading into them a lot. I think the extra care they need makes them even more charming. I really hope I can adopt a few some day.

They are lovely little things ^^
They're very inteligant, they get to know you very quickly
Once they know who you are and they trust you they're very likely to come straight to the front of the cage when you open the door and ask to be played with ^^
They've all got very differant personalities too ^^ that's how I can tell my boys apart XD
I wish the best of luck to you I hope you do get some, they're briliant little pets

I have 3!

Sweet little critters, pity no one knows about them, the vets all think they are dogs when i call about them

So much for small exotics expert

Awwww! >w< I want some so bad! Have to wait until I'm living on my own, though. And I have to find someplace to get them. XD So hard to find breeders and the like. . .

Hopefully they'll become more widely known with time.

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-10 17:29:00 +0000 UTC]

Mhmm, well you know, some states make it illegal to own them something about an exotics law

So make sure you can

and there are Degu rescues, if you look online

I live in RI, so its easy to find them, we have rescues and pet shops that sell them

If you live in the New England area, message me when you get a place of your own, I can hook you up with some awesome degus ;D

The-Snowlion In reply to Starsan [2009-10-10 17:38:41 +0000 UTC]

I think the laws around here apply more to "dangerous" animals and reeeaaally exotic stuff like tigers and zebras.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I live on the opposite side of the country. I'll be in California for college next year, and I'll probably stay there after school. I think the Humane Society shelters take in a few, so I guess I'll check those regularly. Thanks for the tips. ^^

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-10 18:32:57 +0000 UTC]

XD well that is good, at least you will be able to own one

Sorry to hear that, never mind then on the help XD

If you eve need owner advice, though, message me, I ahve had to become a dxegu expert owning these guys, you can't really find info online!

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-10 22:59:21 +0000 UTC]

anytime my dear

a lot of people who get them don't understand them, or even rodents for that matter, and it ends up being a disaster, So yes, it is greatly helpful to find someone who knows, I know it was for me!

The-Snowlion In reply to Starsan [2009-10-10 23:02:25 +0000 UTC]

I've already read a lot into what's involved in degu care, but I'm sure that extra help would be fantastic. ^^ Never know what surprises could pop up.

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-10 23:06:14 +0000 UTC]

I will warn you this, never ever use pine bedding, the oils from it when it comes into contact with rodent pee can be toxic and kill your degu

I use news paper and flannel cloth on top of that, reduces mess, and you can just wash it

plus it environmentally safe, you are reusing old things

The-Snowlion In reply to Starsan [2009-10-11 03:54:31 +0000 UTC]

D8 Oooohhh. Good thing you told me that. XD Don't know if I would've tried pine, but now that's one less worry. ^^

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-11 03:58:04 +0000 UTC]

you are quite welcome^^ i almost made the mistake of using it, till I read that online

also never feed them almonds, poisenous to rodents

if you google poisenous plants to feed rodents, or soemthing like that, you can find a whole list of things not to feed your rodents

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Snowlion In reply to Starsan [2009-10-11 04:40:33 +0000 UTC]

I believe I heard something about the almonds. I think I'll be pretty cautious about their diets. XD; Don't want to risk anything, especially with the diabetes issue.

Starsan In reply to The-Snowlion [2009-10-11 13:47:40 +0000 UTC]
