Description I have always loved unicorns, though the ones in my headspace tend to be a bit wilder, and a bit more colorful than pastel-and-white creatures one more commonly sees. I adore Meredeth Ann Pierce's 'Birth of the Firebringer', and though I didn't draw one of her characters here (the mare is my own yoo-nee-korn), I definitely love Pierce's vision of unicorns. No rainbows, hearts, or magic here -- just miles and miles of un-gentle moor...

Anyway, this was another attempt at drawing completely in Painter. I know it's just so easy for other people, but it's taking me a while to get better at it. Not a very busy background, either, but that just means I need to practice more. The anatomy isn't perfect, but it's a good bit closer than I thought I'd achieve, so I'm happy with it. Besides, how can you not like a unicorn with attitude?

And I'll stop blathering now...

I actually like the heavy line use and zero inked backgrounds. It really reminds me of the art in Okami. Which is pretty.

I think it looks good. I like the back view and the style.

Thank you. Huh, it does look a little like Okami. I'll have to go look at more game stills now. Thanks for pointing that out.

thats beautiful... i love unicorns (slaggit!... nearly went and spelled 'unicron' too) and this one, eventhough its a mare, keeps giving me visions of Ratchet from the time he got turned into a paint in that ficcie of yours

So pretty...I think the anatomy is just fine. There are minor errors, but I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. I like the mood you give with the dark clouds, and the way it complements the unicorn's pose. Makes her look angry about something...

I really like this one too. The angle, the grass, and the lighting. Adn a pinto unicorn (argh.. I did not just spell Unicron out of habit!)

The only thing that bothers me some is the thick line weight use to draw the unicorn, and the nonexistence of lines on the background scenery. But that's only a little thing.

You know what's funny? I was thinking the same thing about the heavy line-weight versus the background with no inks. I thought about doing some kind of inks on the background, but it just didn't look right. Maybe if the unicorn inks had been lighter, it wouldn't have been as noticeable. In any case, glad to know I wasn't the only one to think that wasn't quite right.

Hey, I think the FEELING of a picture by far exceeds the need for utterly unattainable perfection. Perfection is overrated by a long shot. She still rocks and I so second you on that book, it's mindbendingly good. Mightneed to haunt it downat the library tomorrow...
