Description A commission piece made for a freeform roleplay. Slightly larger than A4-sized, the cover is hand-painted, embossed leather and the adornments are painted fimo. Perfect for summoning unnamed horrors from beyond time and space, or for keeping that collection of pressed tentacles...

I love this piece! excellent work i must say! though question, how'd you get the tentacles centerpiece to stay in place and attach to the books cover?

Barge cement - it's a wonderfully tough glue. Once it's set, you're more likely to tear the leather from the book than the decoration from the leather. If I hadn't been covering the clasp in clay, I might also have opted to rivet it through the cover.

Pressed tentacles? Wow. You have an imagintion, allright. Everyone knows you pickle tentacles of slimy Things from the outer reaches of the space-time continum, you don't press them. Pressing's for Unholy Flowers and Eldritch Herbs.

You mean I spent all that money on a tentacle press and leather apron for nothing?

So it would seem.

Sorry.

Thank you! I still have a lot to learn, though - I'm still doing things more by guesswork and trial than by ingrained knowledge.

I love the centrepiece and how the chain links off of it.....
I don't know anything about book binding but this looks awesome, would have loved to see shots of this from other angles also

the-tenebrus In reply to blackstreak [2008-01-26 21:25:29 +0000 UTC]

Your wish is my command! The centrepiece was built from fimo, with wires inside the loops that hold the pin, to reinforce them.

The headband is curtain braid - when I have more time on my hands, I'd like to learn to make proper headbands - there's a lot to bookbinding that I've yet to learn

If this was a movie prop, it'd be fun to make these cornerpieces out of something flexible, with eyes behind those grooves so that they could open - yellowish-green, slitted eyes, of course!

Anyway, sorry for the link ~g~ Glad you like the book!

Tentacles!
This is a really gorgeous book. The texture and colour of the leather is wonderful, and I can honestly say that the photo doesn't do it justice.
