"Days Gone By" is probably my favorite song off the album, and I've been wanting to render it in line and color since first I heard it. I held back though, for lack of a good enough concept and a desire to do the song justice, but when I saw the Apples' parents in "The Perfect Pear" I finally had something to work with. I suppose I should be happy it turned out half-way decent, what with my painting skills being dulled by disuse for the better part of a year. It seemed a shame to break a five year tradition though, so here you go. Merry Christmas, people!

In some cases, yes. For example, on this one I wanted to have stockings hanging from the fireplace, and maybe some Hearthswarming dolls on the mantle piece, as well as a few other decorations, but it would have made it way too busy and congested. If the background is too loaded with detail it can easily overpower the characters. Β

I see. Yeah, it's hard trying find a good balance between making the characters stand out but a part of the world and keeping the background interesting but not in your face. At least it is for me XD

Gorgeous work, and "Days Gone By" is my favorite as well. You should have someone do an animation combining your work and the music, even if it was just background type animation (snow fall outside the windows and the fireplace shadows).

Thanks! That's an interesting idea. I think I did a commission a while back for someone who does that kind of work. Not sure how well it would work on traditional art though.

That's fine, just consider it my mind wandering through various possibilities. While we're talking, I was looking at a collection of fan-videos on a website dedicated to mlp, and there was one that mixed Starwars and Equestria girls, and I got to thinking you did such a good job with the MLP/LOTR cross-over you should try it with other big names like StarWars or POTC. No pressure or anything, just ideas that I wanted to share.

"Days Gone By" is by far the best song on that album. I love the shadows and some of the details like AJ wearing Bright Mac's hat. Well done!
