Blood Summoning | Blood Golem Craft | Mysticism
✵ S K I L L S ✵
I. [Golem Craft] | Mote of Endurance {Zhuangzhi} | [Duration: 1-5 turns][Cooldown: 2-6 turns] | [AOE: Defence]
Lindt reaches into his pocket and closes his hand around a small sheet of paper, a drop of blood crystalizing to a gem through it. With a whisper of a blessing, he commands to life a butterfly shaped golem, which flies to a point that he can see, and stays stationary unless he commands it to move.

Any ally, himself included, within its [10ft radius] are protected, granting them second wind and allowing them to endure what would otherwise be critical hits.

[Any damage allies within its radius receive is deflected and reduced for the duration that they are within the spell’s effect].

Effects:

  • Zhuangzhi’s aura absorbs the brunt of incoming damage to targets within its range. The spell’s effects are strongest in its initial active turn. For example, a bludgeoning hit that would have broken bone would be reduced to a bruise, or a deep slash to a shallow cut. With each subsequent active turn, aura’s effects lessen - at half effect, what would’ve been a broken bone is reduced to a fracture, for example.
  • It can move 15ft on its turn.
  • Spell’s effects do not extend to constructs or other magical ‘creatures’.
  • When the spell ends, the golem becomes inert, and cannot be reactivated without a new blood jewel.

Drawbacks:
  • Requires concentration - as long as this spell is active, then he can’t use other magic for its duration. If Lindt is hurt, there’s a chance that he’ll lose concentration, ending the spell’s effect.
        > [Roll a 1d5, if less than or equal to the turns the spell’s been active, then the spell ends].
  • The golem itself is incapacitated if it’s hit twice, rendering it unable to move. Getting hit a third time deactivates it, dispelling its effect.

Duration:
Maximum 5 turns if he is able to maintain concentration, unless purposefully dispelled.
Cooldown:
Cannot be summoned for the number of turns the skill was active plus one, once dispelled.
II. [Mysticism] | Dance of Blessings | [Duration: 1 turn][Cooldown: 1-3 turns] | [SINGLE TARGET: Buff]
Lindt performs a magic-imbued dance, drawing energy from his own soul, and siphoning it by blessing a target of his choosing a temporary +1 to any single stat [the target must decide which stat upon receiving the blessing].

Effects:
  • Dance can be interpreted rather loosely - but it must require some somatic component (that is, if Lindt is completely restrained, he will not be able to cast this ability).
  • He must be able to see or touch the target. Cannot be cast on himself.
  • Can only be held in ‘queue’ by target for up to 3 turns before its potential effect vanishes.

Drawbacks:
  • Cannot be used immediately on the same target, that is, if a target’s already received and used the blessing, then for at least 1 turn, the spell cannot be cast on them again - the strain on them would be detrimental.
  • If used consecutively by Lindt, regardless of target, it will exhaust him, [see third drawback]. If Lindt is heavily injured, he cannot use this skill at all.
  • Using it too much in a single day prevents him from accessing it again without having a [long rest] to recover his stamina [3 full reset cycles, meaning he can use it 9 times between long rests, excluding if he is heavily injured, in which case he cannot use it at all until he sufficiently recovers].

    > For example, in round 1, Lindt uses DoB on a target. Cooldown is 1 turn. Then, Lindt uses it again. Cooldown is now 2 turns. If Lindt uses it again, then cooldown is 3 turns. If he hits the 3rd cooldown cycle three times in a day, then he has no more strength to draw on to perform this skill.

Duration:
The boosted ally’s immediate next turn [which uses the boosted skill]. Can only be held in 'queue' by target for up to 3 turns before the potential effect vanishes.
Cooldown:
One turn cooldown at base, increases with consecutive use [see third drawback].
 III. [Blood Summoning] | Biest Herzen | [Duration: 3 turns][Cooldown: 2 turns] | [OFFENCE]
Unable to be summoned by choice thusfar, this beast only makes itself known when Lindt least wants to see it.

Lindt’s blood, whether spilled fresh on the battlefield, or old from his vials, paired with his escalating emotions, summons a humanoid creature, crawling like a beast, a deer’s skull atop its head, shadows veiled over its eyes and dark liquid oozing from its agape mouth.

Unlike his mum’s guardian, his beast’s form is horrific. Lindt believes that if he can… Understand it better, then perhaps the beast’s appearance may change, but so far he hasn’t had any luck in facing whatever aspect of himself this beast is created from. It’s not like he really wants to attempt to, anyways.

Effects:
  • The more distressed Lindt is, the more likely that the beast will act outside of his control.
[Upon initial summon, Lindt must make a DC10 INT saving throw].
  • If able to be controlled, the beast will act to protect Lindt and those around him by attacking his foes, targeting whichever is closest to Lindt [acts on his turn].
  • The beast remains until it runs out of energy - a maximum of 3 turns, gets hit 3 times, or if Lindt passes out.

Drawbacks:
  • Lindt cannot willingly dispel the beast [he hasn’t learned how to control it well enough to earn that ability].
  • If unable to be controlled, the beast attacks anything around it, not differentiating friend from foe, Lindt included [picks a random target and will attack it on Lindt’s turn].
  • At the start of his turn, before the beast’s action, Lindt can attempt to regain control over it.

    > [INT saving throw ➢ DC20 at first, decreases by 5 for each turn he’s unable to control it, until he makes the save or the spell ends (lowest DC10)].

Duration:
Maximum 3 turns, unless it is destroyed or Lindt passes out.
Cooldown:
2 turns.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

[POS] ▍Disciplined | Thoughtful | Studious | Loyal | Open-minded
[NEG] ▍Workaholic | Prickly | Unforgiving | Willful | Tense

At first, Lindt gives the impression of being withdrawn. He keeps to himself, gray eyes seemingly only observing what transpires around him, but never actually stepping in. However, such an assessment of his character is usually promptly discarded. Yes, he’s not quick to trust, but that doesn’t make him any less eager for knowledge, for information. He’s calculating and sharp-witted, but disciplined enough so that he’s never purposefully callous nor underhanded. He cares very much for the people around him, and has no desire to contribute more hurt to the world.

In spite of his steely attitude, he’s not actually that uptight, not being the stickler sort. However, he is prickly, quick to confrontation - but just as quick to apologize in most cases. Still, his willfulness is apparent in his episodes of stubbornness, when even if he can hear your sound advice, he still may not follow it. There are some things that have taken up residence in his heart, calcified, and rooting him to an inability to move on. He is not unreasonably petty - but letting go is of great difficulty to him. Sometimes he fears that that’s truly what drives him, yet he doesn’t want to face these fears. So they fester, quietly.

Despite it all, he’s a kind person at the end of the day, who may be hard on others, but is hardest on himself. He tends to be tense, not in a 'looking over his shoulder' kind of way, but in the way that he has slight dark circles under his eyes, the smell of book dust on him from spending far too long, too late into the night, pouring over anything, anything that might point him in any direction. He's duty bound, loyal to the ones he cares about, and works tirelessly for their wellbeing. He knows that this is his place in life, and he'll play his role to the best of his ability.

B I O G R A P H Y

tl;dr: Lindt was the son of a cleric healer, and a minor hero from Centheria. As a child, he led an idyllic life with his family, until one day his hero-mother left on a questing journey, and never returned. Disheartened, but determined to move on, cleric-mother and Lindt moved back to Plutonia, where Lindt was educated in the same healing magic as his cleric-mother, and eventually began to study magic and theology in Cleistollinium, where he spent the past half decade. Recently, however, the events surrounding the soul-snatched have caught his attention, and so he’s decided to join Phericio to further pursue this thread.

[I. Restless]

Lindt rubs at tired eyes, giving up his quill to lay his head down on his arms instead, barely illuminated by dying candlelight. Tomorrow, he sets off to return to Plutonia - to walk through the gates of Phericio’s main guild halls. He can’t sleep, though this is not new to him. But he closes his eyes anyways, and drifts.

[II. Bedtime Story]

Elysia von Biestherzen, a cleric from a long line of Servants of the Goddess, was hired by Centheria to accompany a rising hero party on a long mission. The party was led by Qiu Qianhong, as strong and fearsome with her glaive as she was prone to getting grievously injured. On the battlefield, Elysia danced to preserve life, healing with each graceful step, using her divine blood to summon a protector to their side. During the party’s downtime, she’d dance to lift spirits, and the warm firelight would hide the blush on Qianhong’s face as she snuck glances - too proud to watch directly, but unable to focus on wiping down her blade.

When the journey’s end came, and farewells were bid at the guildhall, Qianhong (and here mum always laughs as mama buries her face in her hands) panicked and confessed to Elysia in front of the entire mess hall. Their first kiss was met with cheerful laughter.

[III. Childhood]

Lindt’s earliest memories are of tall, swaying grasses, his standing in their shadows as his grandparents called for him a distance away. Of being chased by an exasperated mama, both covered in suds as he tracked mud all over himself, only to get scooped up by mum, his daring escape from bath time cut short. He remembers the feeling of accomplishment as he harvested white radishes with his grandparents, rubbing dirt from the roots as he peered curiously at mama’s old party-mates who come to visit, and tease good naturedly about her ‘retirement’.

He remembers how she’d always stand at the end of the village gates to see them off, a faraway look in her eyes. Mum would be quiet at her side, head leaning on her shoulder, something soft yet unspoken between the two of them.

[IV. Shadow]

After a year, it was clear that she wasn’t coming back. Lindt’s grandparents had gone to sleep, another quiet day, another undated, bland letter from mama sitting opened on the kitchen table. Mum sat still in the chair, fingers brushing over mama’s script, of her promises that she was well, wishing her parents and her love and her beloved son well, that she was still on her quest, that one day all of Evacrest would know her name, and she’d come home, the greatest hero she could be. Another letter for the box in mum’s bedside drawer.

Lindt hung by the door, a shoulder leaning against the frame. There had long settled a bitter taste in his mouth and his heart, a shadow crossing into a precipice, cast from memories of mama’s back - an engulfing sadness at the curve of mum’s back, alone at the table. He watched mum fold the paper up as she always did, but this time, she stood up, turned to look at Lindt.

“I’m going back to Plutonia. I do much more for the realm as a cleric than I do here, waiting. Will you come with me?”

[V. Renewal]

Plutonia was a cacophony. Its people sparkled with life through vibrant streets that never slept. It was overwhelming for Lindt at first, and even though he was a grown boy, entering into his teenage years, those first few days he clung to mum’s side, wide eyed and sharp breaths. His grandparents had pat his head as they departed another direction with their produce, and Lindt marveled at how their idyllic selves blended so seamlessly into the crowds.

Mum was welcomed back to her clerical order with open arms, the Servants extended many a hand, and gestured their appraisal of her son. And as Lindt watched her smile at her reflection donned in her cleric’s robes once again, it dawned on him that mama wasn’t the only one who had made compromises - no, sacrifices, when she chose to have a family. Yet mama had still been so selfish. She couldn’t settle for being there for those who already knew her a hero - no, she had to seize fate into her own hands, her self-fulfillment more important than those she left behind.

“We have to move on, Lindt.” mum told him, cupping his cheeks in her palms gently. Outwardly, Lindt nodded, but his heart stayed. And it stayed.

[VI. Decade]

He took an education under the clerics, practicing their dance forms and the ways to give his soul to others to aid them. He learned of the history of the land, of the Goddess’ blessings, and how she laid to rest. Of the strife caused by the Demon Lord borne out of his grief, of the Princess Knight’s noble battle to reclaim who she was. He read book after book from the clerical order’s library, transcriptions of generations of weathered journals, tracing the Goddess’ gifts, how they seemingly faded, and all the little ways they can still be found if one knows how to look.

He took an interest in studying magic, the strongest gift. As a young adult, Lindt was accepted to a university established in Cleistollinium, but even there, his academic pursuits never went as far as he wanted them to. He had questions with no answers, desires with no ways to achieve them. Emotions he couldn’t control, and the terrifying beasts that he could never shape to something gentler, the way his mum could.

(Adding to this was that he never stopped looking for mama. Not directly, of course, but still. Yet he could find no tangible trace of her. The bitterness crystallizes, locking itself in place, souring everything it touches).

He expands his studies to the theological realm, putting his earlier education to use. That’s how he stumbles upon the soul-snatched. Had the Goddess been cut off from them for so long that she was taking her gifts back, still aslumber? Was this punishment for something that has yet come to pass? A warning? Then the news starts coming in - of cults and impersonators and ancient magics - and he knows that he needs to be there, on the front lines. The dark circles under his eyes and the bodily exhaustion became a constant without his realizing when.

[VII. Awake]

He chooses Phericio, and mum notices (of course she notices). But she only smiles at him, crow’s feet and the same gray eyes.

“I won’t lose sight of what’s important, of what I am meant to accomplish,” he says, taking her hands. “I know my place, and I would never give it up so pointlessly.” the guild emblem’s pin catches the light.

Elysia sighs, envelops her son in an embrace.

“A folded paper can never return to how it was, but it can still become something beautiful, with patience and the willingness to change,” she says to him. Some part of Lindt numbs, and he holds her back, breathes in the familiar scent one last time, before departing.

  • Lindt hadn’t seen mum’s blood summon for a very long time, until she performed it for the Servants. It took the form of mama. Lindt looked away.
  • He had long hair right up until the present. He thought getting it cut would be refreshing as he undertook guild life. He only sort of regrets it (he regrets it).
  • His shoes give him another 6” / 15cm.
  • Contrary to his prim appearance, he has no aversion at all to getting down and dirty. He’s a farm boy at heart.
  • All the spiky halo stuff is courtesy of the Servants clerical order. Although not officially a part of the order, he does still represent them because of his lineage and the magic he uses. His mum’s family line in particular has always been a part of this order, and they were given the moniker ‘Biestherzen’ because of their affinity for blood summoning. He had intentions to join them after graduation, as the Order acts as archivists and scholars as well as being healers, but that’s on hold for the time being while he settles into being a Guild member.
  • His mum currently works from Cleistollinium, having been stationed there for the past few years with her fellow travel-group of Servants.

❝The more I run the farther away it seems

Art is a mean meditation, staring at a blank screen
In between what we mean and the things we say

I gotta stay one step ahead of a losing game
I’m a slave to the pages I throw away
To create, complicate, it’s the same damn thing
Once it’s made, I’m too good to appreciate.
