Description This one was a commissioned work - 18" by 24", watercolour. This is a Methodist Church; I think it's in Florida in the United States. The bricks were a little tedious, but not particularly difficult.

i love the way you painted the sky.. it never turns out well with watercolours to me

Thank you so much! ^^ I think the trick to sky is to keep it simple and quick. I wet my blue paint and then washed the sky with clean water and just slapped blue here and there. The paint did all the work. I always get rotten skies when I try to hard at them and try to "paint" them instead of just letting them flow.

ah so you use blue paint?instead of watercolours?

Oh, no - I meant "blue watercolour", of course. I think I used cerulean for this sky.

ah ok ok ... but maybe painting can be used with lots of water like a watercolours

Thank you very much! You know, the fact that it's a whopper of a painting helps give it that "photo-illusion". It's pretty obviously watercolour up close. Thanks again - you've been so supportive lately, and I hardly ever get online to see anything or talk to anyone.

Yeah it was about time I updated my account with my graduation project now that it's finished I managed to get through 600 dev's in one week, so I should be able to keep a normal track of things again. I know what it's like, being too busy, so don't worry about it

D: 600 in a week!?! Now that's dedication! I think I'd have deleted them and just started over!

Thank you so much! I admit that the bricks took a while, but I had used a straight edge to draw in lines to mark their locations and keep the perspective right and it worked out okay.

Cool! how much time do you need to draw something like this?

theancientofdays In reply to BaLiNa [2009-05-06 09:58:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! The drawing doesn't take too long. I think I spent about 2 hours on the underlying sketch, but the actual painting took a lot longer.

Thanks very much, Tiger! This commission was sent to me by a local florist, so after I got paid, I went straightaway to the florist's and bought a bunch of stuff.

theancientofdays In reply to martoo1973 [2009-05-06 09:55:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Buildings are really pretty easy because they're all just straight lines, mostly. Just a matter of getting the perspective right in the drawing and then "colour it in".

Thanks very much! The bricks weren't too hard this time - I used a pencil and a straight edge to mark the positions of the bricks in perspective and just kind of made each one a bit smaller as they got "farther away".
