Description This is today's work - 8 hours. It's a commissioned watercolour, 11" by 14". Not a bad likeness, I think. The reference photo can be found here: [link]

I'm almost caught up on messages and deviations. I promise I'll get back online in the morning and finish up. I apologize again, but it's been rather...hectic of late.

I just found this comment, so I apologize for the delay in responding - I'm only on DA occasionally now.  Thank you very much for the kind words.  As you know, watercolour isn't easy.  I had to plough through a lot of not-so-hot work before I got comfortable enough with it to start exhibiting.  The one particular strength of watercolour is that once you get a feel for it, it makes the other media seem a lot easier to handle because they tend to be a lot more "forgiving".  Thank you again for the kind words.

Bless you! I worked and re-worked those eyes until I thought I was going to scream. It's most gratifying that you like them!

Thank you very much! I was pleased with this one - people can sometimes be a bit difficult to paint in watercolour, and I think I got lucky here.

OOOOH! Lovely! You have my total admiration - portraits in watercolours must be so difficult!!

Wow! Thank you very much! I guess it takes a little practice, but once I figured out how to control the amount of water and paint, it wasn't too hard.

Thank you VERY much! I like this one, too - I think coming up with a better mix of paint for skin tones helped; as my full-colour portraits go, this one really made me happy.

I appreciate it! I usually use a bit of yellow and a bit of red with white and mix until I get the right level of darkness, but here I tried adding some burnt sienna. It gives it a little more of a "tanned" look to it.
Gee, this little portrait has gotten me a lot of work all of a sudden! I'll be busy painting people for weeks!

I haven't been lately because I'm too lazy to explain to people why people cost more. I just tell everybody that people portraits are on sale. It's an investment in the future - a happy customer tells their friends.

I imagine you could paint your grandchildren better than I could! "Grandchildren"?!? But I am pretty reasonable...I'll note you.
Yes, this one was a commission; the lady who ordered it was so pleased that she's brought me a lot more work to do - I'll be busy with portraits for a while! Isn't life GREAT!?!

Thanks! I tried something a little different with the skintones on this one - I added a little burnt sienna to the mix to make her look a little more tanned, and I thought it worked pretty well. I really appreciate the kind words!

Well, I usually start with the eyes because I know that if they're not right, I might as well just start over. They're what everyone looks at first - in real life and in art!
