Description Today's work, a watercolour commission, 11" by 16". This was requested in black and white, interesting enough - I matted it black in/grey out.

Looks like they had the sun right in their eyes on the original picture Although the boys are posing, it looks like a spontanuous shot to me. And I love to see you paint in black and white

Thanks very much! The lady who commissioned this took it to her office and showed it around, so I got a lot of nice feedback (and probably a lot more work) from it.

Thank you very much! It's great to hear from you again, too! I liked working on this one - it was a challenge making everything look natural without the colour!

I'll be "visiting" the painting I did of you at the museum next Saturday - I'm excited to hear what they think of it!

Thank you very much! For some reason, my deviations aren't getting a lot of attention these days, so I really appreciate the kind comment. It's rare for a client to request a monochrome watercolour, but in this case, I'm glad she did.

Thank you very much! I really enjoyed working on this one - there's a certain challenge to getting the likenesses right with only one tube of paint!

theancientofdays In reply to dragonC [2008-04-16 08:06:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I'd normally do a black and white in charcoal or the dreaded pencil, but I like the way the watercolour looks - kind of "old photograph-ish". ^_^

dragonC In reply to theancientofdays [2008-04-16 17:57:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually I though it was done in pencil, but amazingly it was done in watercolour! So amazing

Thanks! I hope she'll be happy with it; I've a big stack of commission work, so I did this one first because I knew it would be the "easiest". I hope she'll be happy with it - there's a lot riding on this month's work.

Martywolf92 In reply to theancientofdays [2008-04-16 22:42:11 +0000 UTC]

Anytime. How can you not love this or be happy with it. Its great! Yes the "easiest". What you think can be the easiest can sometimes be the hardest and what you think is hard can actually be quite easy! Well there you go, some wisdom from little young me!

Well then i wish you luck!

theancientofdays In reply to Martywolf92 [2008-04-17 09:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Wise words, indeed! Today I start the "hard" one - I guess I won't know how hard it actually is until I get going on it. Funny thing, though - they never seem to be quite as difficult as I think they'll be.

Yup, you prove my wise words! Your a walking example.! haha. Well i hope that went/is going well.!

To tell you the truth, I haven't actually seen black and white watercolor, this is a first for me. Very nice job!

theancientofdays In reply to Floreyn [2008-04-16 08:01:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! First for me, as well. If someone requests something in black and white, I'd probably more naturally reach for the charcoal or the dreaded pencil, but I'm glad they asked for watercolour. I'm pretty happy with the look. ^_^

Black and white watercolor - that is not something you see everyday! Definitely adds a unique touch! Great work, as always

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to jadedlady [2008-04-16 08:09:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! It's certainly not the medium you'd normally associate with black and white. We considered other possibilities, including full-colour, but I'm glad the client decided on black and white - it kind of makes it a different sort of watercolour. ^_^

Thanks! I never really thought of it that way, but you're right - it kind of gives it a bit of an old-fashioned look. ^_^
