Hmm...the photo I took of this portrait really doesn't do it justice. I'll try to get a better shot tomorrow.This is a watercolour commission, 8" by 10". I used this reference photo: [link] . I obviously put the kids closer together and "zoomed in" on them a little so that the faces were a little more clear in the painting.

Thanks very much! I usually cheat on paintings like this by blowing up the faces on my computer and printing them out. Come to think of it, I guess that's not cheating after all - just common sense.

I've never tried but i know you sorta gotta plan it when you draw it with greylead or something. You know how you draw the structure of the face and the eyes have to be half way down the face and that. Ya that.

I usually just grid out the drawing for people portraits - for animals, I've gotten comfortable enough to just do a quick sketch and start painting...
