It’s been 2 hours since Tails and Cosmo’s last encounter with a dark fox. They decided they’d stay in the room they were previously sent into until they had to make their next evacuation. During this time they basically sat together in silent wishes.

“Cosmo…?” Tails asked.

“Yes, Tails?” Cosmo wondered.

Tails looked at Cosmo with a sort of sad face, “I…” He stopped saying anything and looked back down at the floor and sighed.

Cosmo rubbed Tails’ back and smiled, “It’s okay, Tails. You can tell me anything. What’s wrong?”

Tails kept his head down and turned his head to the side a bit in the other direction from Cosmo. “I… shouldn’t say anything…”

“Why not, Tails?” Cosmo asked.

Tails looked at her and he had tears dripping down the side of his cheeks, “I just can’t.”

“Tails, tell me.” Cosmo said, “I need to know what is on your mind.”

Tails looked back at the floor and stuttered, “It’s… hard to say… But, I’ll try to tell you…”

“It’s okay, Tails.” Cosmo assured, “Whatever it is you have to say, say it. We shouldn’t have to keep secrets from each other.”

Tails looked back at Cosmo and tried to explain, “It’s about the past 5 years.”

Cosmo knew this was going to be about her, “What, Tails…?”

“Since the day you died, I have changed into somebody else. I have never spoken to my friends in a friendly way since then. I ditched them all in sorrow, and eventually they all threw me off their shoulders. The only one who keeps trying to come back, is Sonic… He’s always coming back to see me, to see how I’m doing… And I always kick him out and tell him that I don’t want to see him…”

Cosmo looked sad to hear this.

Tails continued, “Because for all those years you were the only person I wanted to talk to. The only person I knew who could make me happy. Nobody else. I kept saying to myself for 5 years that you were coming back home… That you never died… And I kept waiting in my home for you to come back, and never left it… If I were to leave my house, the only place I’d go was the top of the hill, to look up at the sky and see if you were going to fall from the stars, just like how I first met you…”

Cosmo gave Tails a disappointing look and sort of cried. “That isn’t something I would have wanted.” She said, “Even if I were gone, I would want for you to be happy, and live the way you used to. For 5 years you’ve been throwing away your friends…? Why?”

“I… don’t know…” Tails sighed, “It was just so hard to go on without you… I realize now what I’ve turned into… I’m really sorry, Cosmo… When this is all over, I’ll change my ways and be my old self again… Can you forgive me?”

“That’s ok, Tails…” Cosmo said, “I forgive you. I understand how you must have felt.”

Tails smiled and cried a little, “Th-thanks, Cosmo… I promise to be myself again when we’re out of here…”

“I’m glad to hear that.” Cosmo smiled.

~Time Left: 9 hours, 30 minutes.

Another half an hour went by, and a dark fox finally found their location. It flew into the room through the broken window and stood with his arms crossed. “You’re over half way finished.” It laughed, “Don’t count on it being an easy trip throughout the rest of your stay here.”

Tails stood up and frowned, “I’ve dealt with many of you guys already. Don’t try to think that you can take me on.”

“It’s getting harder to fight though, isn’t it, Tails?” The dark fox snickered, “First we took your arm, then we took your ear, and then we took your eye. What next, Tails? Seems to me your chances are limiting with all of your defects.”

“These ‘defects’ aren’t going to stop me.” Tails growled, “And I promise that Cosmo will ‘not’ be harmed again…”

“Careful.” The dark fox opened his hand and began to charge up a black bolt, “Don’t make promises that you can’t keep.”

Before the dark fox finished charging up its attack, Tails picked up Cosmo and flew through a vent in the ceiling. The dark fox just laughed and followed them in.

“Tails, he’s gaining on us!” Cosmo warned as they were passing through the vents.

“Dodge this one, fox!” The dark fox fired his black bolt at Tails and Cosmo. The vent was too narrow to dodge the attack, and it was heading straight for them.

“TAAAAAILS!!!” Cosmo screamed in horror watching the bolt passing through the vent in their direction.
