Description

I had so much fun playing with colours on this.

Eventually I am going to do a larger portrait of Paul with his violin (he is such a good musician).

I love this and how your brush you used goes with the texture of his face.

Thank you. It took me quite a while to build up the layers of hatching.

You have a beautiful (and natural) blend of skin tone/color. Love the combination of both warm and cool highlights, it really brings depth to a portrait, great lighting on a subject does wonders!

I see you like emphasizing the faces, since they are quite detailed, while the rest is pretty flat. I at least like that technique
You're also pretty good at showing emotions in your portraits Paul here sure seems to have a natural smile.
And the lighting is so spot on Impressive. Coherent colouring as well

Thank you. I am currently playing with colours again in the next one I am working on. I really like it when you get lots of colours in skintones - and it is definitely fun to do lol.

Very nice shading style (i believe it's called crosshatching, right?). I think you should definetly try rendering the hair, it would make the pice seem more complete. Good job anyway .

Fantastic work! You're style is developing into something unique and familiar at the same time. I think if you were to actually add some form to the collar and shit, it would add to the piece overall, as leaving them as flat is a bit distracting from his face. Same with the hair. I think it is a stylistic choice on your part, but I can't help but feel why would you put so much into the face, and then leave the rest alone when you could accomplish so much.

Thank you Yes, it is a stylisitic choice. I have had mixed opinions on it ranging from people who love it, to people who hate, and various stages inbetween - I personally have always loved contrast of styles in images. As I use hatching I think that if I were to include the same amount of detail in the hair and clothing that it would be too much. I have tried adding small amounts of form to things before, and a lot of the time it was better off just not having any at all.
