I'm finally back to painting!
I got sidetracked by some tv series in the past few weeks, but now I'm all commited to painting again. I enjoy this painting very much, it's about conveying a feeling of greatness. And I wanted to push my light and colours a bit, too.
Update: Someone made a(n entertaining) joke about the random dude with a staff standing in the WIP. He made a valid point, so I kept searching for alternatives for the foreground figure. I wasn't even working on the painting when I thought of portraying a murder scene. So there you have it, and I'm much more pleased with it, too. I think I'll leave the painting at that, except maybe for minor changes. Feedback would still be very much appreciated! (:

Hello there! I just happened across this piece and thought it was lovely- but please keep in mind that I'm just a writer, and certainly no expert on painting.
The only problem I could find:
The first thing that draws the eye here is the silhouetted couple (?) one of which is actively murdering the other- then the gorgeous scene behind comes into focus. The problem with that is this draws your attention away from everything else, and the onlooker will be entirely focused with the "Why?" of the situation.
Possibly try to move the couple away from the exact center of the picture (because this is where we look first) so that after examining the scene, we'll notice the couple and be horrified at how ignorant we were. If they were positioned at where the light stops on the hill at the far right, they were facing the opposite direction, and the man was farther off land, it would evoke more emotion and it would be easier for onlookers to miss.
But besides for that, this picture is absolutely amazing. The colors, the trees and the path in the foreground, the mountains in the distance...amazing. The details, the river- perfect. You're an absolutely amazing painter, and I say that with no exaggeration. Nice work

When I painted this, I was originally thinking along the lines that the couple should be visible quite soon, so I tryed to have some contrast where they are standing. Probably its better to "hide" them a little more, as you pointed out, though.
Thanks again, and don't worry that you're a writer! Often, people who don't specialize in a certain field have a different way of viewing things, which is very helpfull, too!

This is very inspiring to me... the colors attracted me to this, but then the scene it's depicting seems like it could make for a lengthy piece of a story.

Wundert mich irgendwie dass dieses Bild nicht unter den ALs auf Mexx war, hätte die Auswahl diese Woche schön aufgefrischt.. xD
Ich find da hast du dich wieder mal selbst übertroffen.
Besonders gern mag ich das Gras. Es sieht so schön weich aus, man würde sich am liebsten reinfallen lassen.
Die Bäume sind ebenfalls toll, vor allem der auf dem Felsen links. Die Schatten dort sind toll.
Mir gefallen auch die Farben die du im Tal benutzt hast. Viele (zb ich xD) vergessen oft dass die Landschaft nach hinten verblasst
Die Szene selber ist wirklich mal was anderes. Mir gefällt sie vor allem weil das Geschehen so in die friedliche Landschaft schneidet
Das hat was und ist wesentlich besser als mit dem Magier den du beim WiP hattest.
Allerdings muss ich zugeben, habe ich nicht gleich erkannt was die da machten xD Vllt würde man das schneller erkennen wenn die Frau etwas näher beim Mann stehen würde und/oder wenn der Mann vielleicht anders fallen würde. Etwa mit einem Bein in der Luft und dem anderen auf der Ferse? Nur eine Idee meinerseits
Ah und irgendwie finde ich die Personen etwas zu dunkel im Vergleich zum Hintergrund
Der Fluss wurde glaub ich schon mal irgendwo angesprochen bezüglich einem Verbesserungsvorschlag bei der Biegung
Aber ansonsten ist das Bild wirklich wunderschön und aufwendig und mit einer tollen Bildidee (Es wär wirklich ein AL wert gewesen)
Würde auch nen tollen Banner abgeben

Jaja, das AL ist unergründlich xD Aber ich find eigentlich, dass sie diese Woche schon schöne Bilder ausgesucht haben. Gab schon öfter den Fall, dass mir 2, 3 der Bilder gar nicht gefallen haben.
Ich hab den Mann so fallen lassen, dass er überrascht wirkt. Ein Bein zurück, um das Ungleichgewicht auszugleichen, und die Hände nach vor. Außerdem ist er jetzt so schräg, dass es eigentlich klar sein müsste, dass er nach hinten fällt. Ich find eigentlich nicht, dass das so uneindeutig ist xD Bei der Frau könnte man sich streiten, ob sie entweder überrascht ist, oder ihn gestoßen hat, das stimmt... Erst waren sie eh näher beisammen, aber ich wollte die beiden Silhouetten nicht überlappen lassen.
Und sie sind wirklich zu dunkel... Da war mir irgendwie der Kontrast zum Hintergrund wichtiger, denk ich. Und die Tatsache, dass ich dann ein paar Details einsparen konnte. xD
Und was den Banner betrifft - auf Facebook ist das Bild schon drinne. xD

People praise composition all the time, but this work truly has very well thought out composition. Excellent work

I think, though, that even composition is subjectively perceived, so maybe you prefer different compositions than these other people who you refer to.

I do prefer elements that contribute to the depth of the picture and in that respect I am subjective. Many people prefer flat pictures, restricted value ranges or minimalistic pictures.
Composition should however always serve what the artist is trying to express, contribute to their idea and never detract. In this sense, your work is very well thought out.
Mostly I find that when people praise composition they are simply saying they enjoy the way things are arranged, without explaining why they enjoy the way the artist arranged the things the way they did.

Ah, yes, I agree, pictures need depth, too. It's something, many aren't even aware of.
