Well, there is no evident perk to be in a group, but if your art is in enough popular groups some of those users might like what you do and they might want to befriend you so they can see more of your art.
Pretty much is a tool for sharing what you like to do, but since groups usually have a main subject, your chances of finding people that like what you like to create increases.
