Story:
Rating - 13

Ari looked down at the drink in her hand, she'd never been a fan of eggnog but had little choice but to accept the glass from her overly excited team mate, who was at that moment in time attempting to force the strange smelling drink into the hands of the rest of the team. Scarlett just chuckled and gladly accepted the drink before continuing her, very loud, conversation with 2 Norweigan competitors  and Tali, Ari(Or Isabelle as she was legally registered as)'s twin brother Alexander's soon to be wife, the stunning brunette had an air of class around her as she spoke with the bubbly Irish girl who had more of an air of drunkenness than anything.
At the other end of the room stood the men of both Irish & German teams, most were dressed in similar attire, black long boots with white breeches and a rapier hung loosely in its scabbard from each man's hip partially hidden by the fabric each one wore around their waist, the colour indicating their branch of TRC & their rank within. Above that each wore a white(or what was once white) shirt underneath a black, burgundy or navy waistcoat. It was basic, especially compared to their usual attire but the Australian heat had meant they had had to ditch the usual long leather coats and military style finery to spare melting halfway through the evening's festivities.
Ari placed the drink down on the table and stood up, the metal of her rapier clattering against the chair as she did so drawing the attention of a few of the other competitors nearby, most had given her a wide berth since arriving, it was only the teams who she had met previously and those who were also armed that greeted her, ignoring the mostly superficial weapon that she and all of her team bore.
Across the room she spotted a familiar team of Spanish competitors and elected to go and talk to them, having gotten along well with them after the previous year's competition. Having strode halfway across the room she felt a hand grab her shoulder and turn her around to face a large man. Colin, she believed his name was, a French, the possibly Portuguese man whom she had beaten at a 4* event only 2 months prior.
As much as she wanted to blame the alcohol for what happened afterward Arianna was more than aware of the fact she had in fact not had anything to drink....

-------------------------------------------

Having to do the trot up with a black eye certainly went down well, no amount of makeup could cover up the thick red and pink lines that lined her eye. Granted, the other guy had come out much worse and it was only because he had thrown the first (and his only) punch that she was even still allowed to compete still. It had turned out that he was moderately intoxicated when he had approached her and for some reason felt it appropriate to accuse her of cheating. When she had informed him that she had won fairly his response had been violence; towards a small and well-armed assassin. Ari hadn't moved quite quick enough and ended up with a hard punch to her front left of her skull, resulting in a black eye, he, however, had ended up with a broken arm and a bloody nose.
Ari could feel Jayson watching her, looking somewhat unamused at his team leaders antics the night before, they had spent the most part of the morning shouting at each other about it, he was annoyed she had retaliated, telling her about how much they would've lost if she had been scratched from the event for her behaviour or if the team had been banned because of it. Ari hadn't put up much of an argument other than telling him to stop being dramatic about it.
Beside her, the coloured mare pranced around on the spot as she waited for her cue to trot the mixed breed mare up the short tarmac strip in front of her. A nod of the head and Ari moved off, making a clicking noise to get the mare to trot the blond had to hang onto the lead chain to stop the small mare from tearing off into the wilderness without her.
----------------------------------------------
The first event was the pas de deux..
Rolling over in bed Jay grumbled when he found the other side of the king sized bed empty..And cold. Arianna was still sulking after their argument the day prior and had most likely slept in her own room, a rare occurrence. Swinging his legs over the side of the bed he pushed himself up onto his feet to start the long day ahead.
The barn was already alive by the time he got down there, Jac stood in the cross ties looking as handsome as ever, adorn in his regal golden plated armor the bloody bay stallion was getting more than his fair share of attention from the other competitors that passed him by. Jay reached his hand out to gently stroke his soft black muzzle "she still angry?" he asked quietly as if fearing the foul-tempered Russian woman would pop out if he spoke too loudly. Jac snorted in response, seeming to understand what was being asked and agreeing that, yes, she was still very angry.
A few stalls down Eydis fidgetted as Taylor wrapped her legs, careful to avoid the bone-like spikes that were protruding from her hocks. The small dun mare was truly a sight to fear, almost every bone in her body was visible, not through neglect but because of the herbal concoction gave to her an hour previously that allowed all mortal souls to see her true demonic form, a form that wasn't often allowed to be seen.
-----------------------------------
The warm up was interesting to say the least, Eydis was hot, hotter than usually, despite being a small mare she quickly made herself known in the form of vertical rears and voilent strikes with her front hooves, making an roaring noise as smoke bellowed out of her skelital nasal passages as she tore around the area at a somewhat quick paced extended trot. The mare was a handful out of demon form, at this stage it was near impossible. Jay closed his fingers and pushed the mare across the arena in a lively canter, her right fore reaching across as she easily covered the ground in a sideways fashion "007! " The steward shouted across the warm up arena, Jay glanced across the arena to see that Ari had already trotted over, her bandana tyed around her neck ready for the performance.

-----------------------------------

Ari sat sideways on the red mare as she watched the other contestants ride into the clearing, it quickly became clear that she was to be the only female in the event, and the only side saddle rider for that matter. The clearing quickly became alive with horses of all sizes trotting and cantering around as their riders got themselves ready for the final event of the Olympics. After Crime had gone down in the warm up of the showjumping Ari hadn't had high hopes for this event, she'd broken several bones in the lower part of her left leg in the incident and as a result was rather glad that the mare was happy to ride side saddle, for this was the last opportunity to bring home a ribbon.
They had spent a large part of the previous evening desperately searching for someone who had a sidesaddle that would fit the mare and as luck would have it a local Australian team had one back at their yard and at 6am that morning had left to go and collect it. The result was only 30 minutes to reacquaint the mare with the style of riding; something that she had taken in her stride.
Ari connected the holster to the offside of the saddle and began to circle the mare around the other competitors, pulling out and aiming the rifle before reholstering it and repeating the process in quick succession. "Izabelle Grainzky please!"
"Here we go lass..."
The music blared in the backround as the blond trotted her mare up towards the track that they would compete on. The sound of the music combined with the crowd was enough to make Tasha bounce about as she was asked to come back to a walk.
"Wait for the flag to go down and then follow the track." The stweard instructed her as he gave her tack a final one over before stepping away from the pair and holding the flag up in teh air.
The flag dropped and they where off
The black magic of Mulholland Drive
Swimming pools under desert skies
Drinking white wine in the blushing light
Just another LA Devotee
Sunsets on the evil eye
Invisible to the Hollywood shrine
Always on the hunt for a little more time
Just another LA Devotee

Tasha threw her legs in the air, her weight shifting back onto her hind quarters, Ari's hand quickly moved back to the rifle gripping it firmly as the mare landed and took off at a canter down the track. Within second the rifle was carefully proped up and aimed at the first target, the sound of it fireing echoed around them as the young woman focused her attention on the next target..

AN:

Another ause-Olympic entry, I'm really not expecting to win anything with this one, it was more heartfelt and less accurate. The piece is dedicated to my mare who passed last year and honestly it had taken me this long to really get over it. Tasha is like her in every way, bar colour (I elected not make her the same colour for personal reasons) like her, her fiery temper and cheeky nature. <3
