Description This original British locomotive came into the hands of NS in 1970 when they bought the series of 7 locomotives to expand their fleet. It is the first and so far only series that has been purchased second-hand. NS had been working on the development of the new 1400 series a few years before but had to stop this because of the high costs. Because NS's need for locomotives was still increasing, they ended up with the English 27000 series.

After a major overhaul, 1501 was the first locomotive to run in 1970. It was also the first electric locomotive to be put on the track in the new house-style color scheme of yellow/grey. The entire series was renumbered to the Dutch series 1500, except for 1 locomotive which was used for spare parts. It was deliberately chosen to skip the 1400 numbers. The English had also given all locomotives names corresponding to Roman mythological female figures. These names were retained, which is why 1501 is also known as Diana.

After that, they mainly served on the route The Hague - Venlo and for the international train to and from Cologne. They were finally taken out of service in June 1986 and a group of drivers from Rotterdam and The Hague saved 1501 from demolition. They maintained the locomotive and used it for special journeys. Unfortunately, it became too expensive and difficult to keep it drivable and it was taken out of service in 2007. Finally, 1501 was transferred to the Railway Museum in 2021 and the museum's collection of electric locomotives is complete.
