Description Vwena: the Lord of the Dance
8/8/07 --- 8/12/07
Pencil, scanned picture, printed it and colored it.

This is Vwena from Thaerin’s story that he is currently developing. (I drew him another picture of another one of his characters, with probably more to come later! [link] )

Vwena is basically God. Or the elvish name for God. That’s just what they call him. I just spontaneously decided to draw this because I was bored one day and wanted to start another picture, so I did that and WHHOOOSH! Turned out way better than I could’ve expected. I’m happy with it. I pictured him creating the world, and I made him look very elvish. Just how I imagined him. And his eyes are white on purpose, I usually make the eyes white for higher beings, like angels and such. I think he kind of looks like Iluvatar. Well, actually I imagined Iluvatar a lot whiter, but I don’t have photoshop so I couldn’t make it look like he shone or anything.

Vwena’s different garements represent the ancient traditional elements; fire, earth, water and air. His hair is flame. As is his Halo, which is the sun. The blue in the halo represents the hottest part of fire (and the most energy and activity comes from the brain so I guess it makes sense. Kind of.) His eyes and face is light. His mantle is the shadow, the darkness and the heavens. Outer Space. His arms, torso and waist is the earth with plants and lakes and rivers (in a geometric pattern). The sash around his waist is water, the Sea and the Ocean; first melting from the earth and rushing down in torrents. His sleeves are the winds and the air. Within his sleeve is the storm clouds and lightning. His belt is the gems from the earth, the gold, silver and all the other precious gems. The tiny pearl in his hand is the world he is forming.

I was asking my family what they thought, and my mom said it looked like he was dancing. That made me think of this part of the hymn “The Lord of the Dance”:

“I danced in the morning when the world was young
I danced in the moon and that stars and the sun
I came down from Heaven and I danced on Earth…”

- “The Lord of the Dance” hymn written by Sydney Carter in 1963

*EDIT* (June 2nd, 2008) I just updated it, I changed the file because I used ArtRage to re-do some parts of the picture especially his face. But I didn't change much.

A classic cyberpunk-urban fantasy tabletop rpg, based on a version of earth that have.. secrets. A magical past, amongst things, a bit tolkienesque (but quite way darker).

Oh... wow.... The colors... the detail... the thought put into this... it's all really amazing!! It's beautiful! Did you make the design yourself, or is the design Thaerin's?

Totally. It's brilliant, and I choose my words carefully.

I love depictions of God as a beautiful young king. I understand why he is shown as an old man sometimes, but I think we forget that "eternal" means "forever young," not just "never-dying."

I really really really love this.

If I were to paint a picture of God (and I'm really hesitant to do devotional pieces, just because my imagination can't match the majesty of spirtual reality), I would draw him as a young king in armour, with shining golden hair.

Oh I think you should! Of course "all of us fall short of the glory of God" and so we shouldn't be too suprised if our pictures do too. but all the same, I think it's a nice, pleasant (and very EASY)way to thank God for His goodness by taking some time to do a little something for Him and use His gifts for His Glory. It's more for spreading the devotion around, not getting it exactly right. That's how I look at it anyway.

Kind of like Arthur? [link]

Oh, the whole World in one Being, all colour and motion, and it can clearly be seen that he is not a human!

Only, if he's dancing, it's a pity no one can see his legs and feet

Theophilia In reply to Murrauddin [2007-09-05 20:54:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. But he'd probably just be standing on void. I couldn't really squeeze much more in. I did try. *slaps paper* Bad paper! Then again, if it was much bigger I wouln't have been able to scan it. I already lost a bit of the edges 'cause it was too big.

Thanks you very much. I love to hear all of your comments.
