Description An A2 sized stencil of my thumbprint on an old plain black t-shirt. Made it a little abstract and the areas on my thumb that had wrinkles or didn't have enough pressure applied don't show up but it all adds to the effect. Done for a battle at Cut N Spray . Would probably be better to have a photo of it not being worn as here the sides curve round my body, hiding a lot of it's form.

Graff will be back up in the next few days too, huzzah!

It's just the verticalness of the thumbprint making it look long, PAUL.

really unique idea, i'm wondering how you got the lines so smooth. it's your fingerprint right? really unique. well done.

ThePpeGFX In reply to Rhodesan [2007-08-04 10:49:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's my fingerprint although due to the only method I had of 'getting' my fingerprint, it's not as detailed. I used spray adhesive on the stencil, so that it stuck down to the surface and didn't allow any underspray

what did you use for material for your stencil? if you don't mind me asking.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThePpeGFX In reply to Rhodesan [2007-08-04 15:27:59 +0000 UTC]

Acetate. It's used in overhead transparencies, it's a clear plastic and I print onto it from the computer. For the t-shirt, I had to stick 4 A4 acetate sheets together before started cutting. It's very strong material, I have stencils made from it that have lasted for years.

I have made a short guide to stencilling before, you might be interested in it, although it's quite brief and just covers the basics... [link]

thanks! how many times did you spray the shirt before you got a solid white?

ThePpeGFX In reply to Rhodesan [2007-08-05 14:36:20 +0000 UTC]

Probably 2-3 'coats' but if I had been doing black on a white t-shirt, it would've taken just one

For a graffiti artist it seems like you are showing what the police would use to recognise you openly but if they saw you wearing it then they still wouldn't know it was you.

I'm sure she liked her painting - everyone likes a present

Hah, seems you've made one comment for two deviations

True, there is that aspect that this is how the police would identify me too but it wasn't the primary idea.

You're not wrong, it was a pain to cut, constantly rotating the A2 sized acetate and having it get stuck on some part of the cutting mat ><

truemarmalade [2007-07-03 22:39:30 +0000 UTC]

How did you setup the stencil of your thumbprint? I'm not sure how one would go from having a fingerprint to having it big and more visible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThePpeGFX In reply to truemarmalade [2007-07-03 23:49:24 +0000 UTC]

Dabbed my finger in spray paint, would make multiple prints on paper until there was no paint on my finger. Repeated that 10 times and then chose the best 3 to scan at high-resolution (we're talking around 1500dpi) and then using brightness/contrast levels, dodge/burn tools and live trace, I picked the one that looked the best of those 3. Wasn't able to get nearly as clear or defined prints as one you can find online but it works

petercolumbus [2007-07-03 02:08:49 +0000 UTC]

What kind of paint did you use to spray on a black shirt? I find that black shirts just suck up the paint and it doesnt even really show up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThePpeGFX In reply to petercolumbus [2007-07-03 10:35:40 +0000 UTC]

You're not wrong, I probably went through half or so of a can. I used Montana Hardcore White. The colour could be a lot more solid but as you can see, it more than shows.
