Description Eponine from Les MisΓ©rables. Oh man, I can't wait to see the movie this December! Better not disappoint...

This drawing of her was originally meant to be from the Heart Full of Love song, but I sadly never finished the picture, which was supposed to include Marius and Cosette, who also share that song. But I enjoyed this part of the picture, so I decided to color it.

Hoho, backgrounds.

Eponine is (c) Victor Hugo

Why thank you! I can't wait to see it, but there's another part of me that's afraid they might end up messing it up. But then I remember the person who directed The King's Speech is directing it, which makes me feel better.

Ooh, very nice! I like the shading and the colours a lot, and her freckles are adorable (And backgrounds are evil, as a rule - but this one fits very well!) Nice work!

Aww, thank you so much! And I'm glad you like the background, too--I really wasn't sure what to do with it, so I just threw some digital salt on it to make it look starry.

It's French, actually. It's a long read, but very good! And so is the musical. It's difficult to explain without rambling, but it's basically about a reformed convict, Jean Valjean, who is followed all his life by Inspector Javert, because he broke parole. There's a lot more to the story, and a ton of characters, but, if you get the chance, you should check it out!

Er, what age, er, GRADE would you say it's for? Cuz' I don't understand French. Or what parole is. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

It might just be a good incentive to learn French, because the English translation is sometimes more complicated and wordy than the original (I mean it - who translates a sentence that means "To watch the bird fly" by "To watch the bird in its flight"?) That said, the artist is right; it's more a high school or later kind of read. I started in primary school with a much shorter version of the book centered on one particular character (Gavroche) and worked my way through the Brick (fan nickname for the book) much later. If you want to get an idea of the story, the musical does a good job at showcasing the characters, concepts, ideals and awesome moments (as well as tearjerkers - lots of people die) of the book, so you can always start there if you're interested

The bird thing? Yeah. Then again, it's a public domain translation from Wikisource - perhaps you can ask whether they have a more recent (and hopefully more readable) translation in a library or a bookshop. It's a bit weird for me, because it's the exact opposite of The Lord of the Rings for me - I first read the books in French, and the translation was clunky and long-winded and made me go "What?". Then I latched on the original English version, and I haven't gone back to the French version in ten years or so

Don't worry, they translated it to English, and a whole bunch of languages, so it doesn't matter if you know French or not. And...I'd say it's meant for an older crowd; probably high school and up. It's very wordy. And parole is the temporary release of a prisoner. But Valjean was all like, "F*** this, I'm leaving anyway." Which is why Javert wants to catch him so badly, heh heh.

Haha, lots and lots of words. Um, the closest I can get the correct pronunciation through letters would be kind of like 'Val-john,' with a soft 'j.' Aww, it's worth the wait, trust me! In the meantime, there's always the musical, and I know there's an anime, but I've never seen it all. But I've heard it's good! The anime goes by the title 'Shoujo Cosette,' though, I think.
