Description

Mangoes are in season now. They are super cheap (3/$1 or 2/$1). Perfect time to make some yummy sorbet for you and/or your family. Enjoy!

You can use any fruit for this dessert.

Mango Sorbet Without An Ice Cream Maker -

1. Use a peeler, peel off the mango skin. Simply cut the mango halves along the thin flat mango seed. Add everything in either a blender or food processor (Now is time to add your choice of sweetener. I used organic Agave), blend until smooth.

2. Pour mango purée into a freezer-safe container. I just used my nonstick rectangular cake pan, lined the pan with parchment paper. Place pan in freezer to set. About 2 hours.

3. Remove your mango purée from freezer and re-mix everything together again in food processor. Why re-mix the puree again? This keeps the ice crystals from forming and saving your sorbet from turning into a giant mango ice cube. Allow at least 8 hours or until firm. Five mangoes yields about a little more than one quart of mango sorbet.

4. Feel free to add splashes of freshly squeezed lemon juice or some fresh mint sprigs. I opted out this option because I wanted my mango sorbet tastes like nothing but mangoes.

5. Now we eat yummy homemade mango sorbet!

Why discard the seeds from the fruits you eat? Here's a suggestion...I plant 80% of the fruits i eat, when they grow into tree seedlings, I give them away to whomever wants them. This is my participation of "Staying Green" and practice the sustainable movement. Try it (Do it!)...It is easy to do your part on keeping this planet healthy and green. Please answer if you see this, do you have to just set aside the mixture for 8 hours after you did all the previous steps? Or did you place it in the freezer again?

Do you mean you have to put the mango mixture back into the freezer for 8 hours? Or just a regular fridge?

i am assuming you miss this line, i copy/paste it for you - You can use any fruit for this dessert.

DireDandelion In reply to theresahelmer [2014-06-04 02:40:34 +0000 UTC]

Um...no. I didn't miss it. It was more of a comment about mango being delicious, mango sorbet looking delicious, and how I wish I could eat it, but cannot.

Yeah, I could make it out of apricots, raspberries, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, or any of the other fruits currently in season in the great state of California, but none of them are mango.

Bansini In reply to DireDandelion [2014-06-04 08:35:55 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Mango is in season this summer in California. Hop over to your nearest fruit store/Indian store and you should find them there!

DireDandelion In reply to Bansini [2014-06-04 16:46:19 +0000 UTC]

*facepalm* Yeah, that's what I was saying.  I'm well aware of the fact it's in season because I was saying that I want mango, but I can't have mango, because I'm allergic.

Will honey work as a suitable sweetener?

theresahelmer In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-06-04 01:29:41 +0000 UTC]

Surely, as a matter of fact, it is a fabulous alternative.

Awesome! I love honey. <3 My sister and I usually go to the farmer's market to find good honey and I love the kind with the comb in it...

Yeah, I'm just really lucky this ruddy college town has a nice farmer's market. My sister keeps buying the garlic pickles there... xD

Lucky you! I'm in an apartment so growing vegetables on a small patio is a no go and the soil here in Texas is a bit crap and clay.

theresahelmer In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-06-04 03:30:07 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...I disagree, you can grow anything anywhere if you want to! Yes even a small patio! I am lucky? How so? You too can buy a bag of dirt from any local super market. Keep our green earth is everyone's responsibilities!

But out I guess that's just me!

I dunno. I managed to kill a cactus. But I could go for some grown herbs...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theresahelmer In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-06-04 04:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Again I know you probably did not mean to kill your cactus on purpose, but I am sure if you want to keep it alive, you could just as easily maintain that status, but people always have done what are important to them, keep your cactus alive maybe isn't your top priority!

You our should not do anything you don't want to do! That includes growing the herbs!

Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci In reply to theresahelmer [2014-06-04 04:09:11 +0000 UTC]

xD Well, having herbs means I can save a little money anyway! I need to get my own apartment first... xD
