And yeah Inkscape is an awesome, but not only for making icons, buttons etc but also stand-alone artwork. You might like to see these (made with inkscape - not mine)

he he, nice to see you get inspired for Inkscape
I loved to play with Filter > Shadows and Glows > and Shadow filter on mine. It gaves good depht to the pictures and boxes . Also, in Files > Document Properties, its great to make #D3DFD1 as a color background to match with the DA one. just some tips
