Description
I woke up from my slumber in a darkened haze. My hands clutched empty bed sheets, making me jolt upright in a sudden memorization that I didn't fall asleep in my room. In fact, I fell asleep on the couch in the living room if I remembered correctly.
Soul and I were binge-watching a whole bunch of movies since my weapon was out for the night. He must have nudged me in the middle of my sleep and told me to go sleep in my own bed while he took the couch for the night.
I can't really remember. My mind was incoherent as it was still filled with sleep.
Faint piano music waltzed its way into my ears.
I swung my legs over the side of the bed in curiosity. I adjusted my shirt that was jumbled from when I was sleeping before getting up. I took a few steps forward before I tripped in the darkness over the pile of my clothes that lay on the floor.
I kicked the collection out of the way, making a note that I should clean them up before the problem got even worse.
The soft sound had led me into the dark, open apartment my weapon and I shared. It was rather small, with it's narrow hall and its cramped kitchen, but it was enough for Noah and I. We didn't need much to go off of as long as the fridge was stocked and there were two beds for us to sleep in, but unfortunately, the front door does tend to get stuck from time to time, resulting in one of us being locked out of the house, which were never a fun to experience. We do however make sure to have the window unlocked by the fire escape to get it in when it does.
Maybe it wasn't the best idea to keep it unlocked, but we haven't had any incidents of strange people wandering in our home trying to kill us.
There behind the couch was Soul, sitting at the small piano, Noah had bought two years ago, insisting that they were going to learn how to play the instrument, but that ambition was short-lived. It has been sitting in front of the window, assembling dust ever since. We use it more as a décor piece than its actual purpose. It was also another surface to stack stuff on top of which was a terrible habit both of us contained within our being.
It was dim in the room, only the small lamp on the side table by the sofa was flicked on.
Soul had pulled up a chair from the dining table and removed all the clutter of old textbooks and stacked them on the floor, allowing him to play freely.
His slender fingers moved along the keys in one fluid motion. It was captivating to just watch his smooth, composed face as he played the soft notes. The melody was unfamiliar to me making me think that this was an original piece he had come up with.
He didn't notice my presence or maybe he was just ignoring it.
Soul playing the piano was a rare sight to see. He never played, not in front of people at least.
But watching him play struck something within me that I had never felt. The urge to move my small, child-like hands in such an entrancing rhythm formed within my itching fingertips.
I hadn't realized that I moved closer until the beautiful music stopped playing.
“I couldn't sleep.” he simply explained. The moonlight made his hair look more like it was blue than its usual silver.
“Will you teach me how to play?”
His eyes widened, taken back at my out of the blue question, “The piano?”
“No, idiot, to be cool.” I rolled my eyes at the imbecile.
“I was starting to think you were never going to ask,” he leaned back in the chair, nonchalantly, stretching his arms behind his head. A devious smirk formed across his thin lips.
I smacked his arm.
“Hey, that's not cool,” he sat up straight in the chair quickly while rubbing his bicep.
“Just be lucky I'm not Maka.” I stuck my tongue out at him like the child I was. “So, can you? Teach me how to play?”
I jabbed my finger down on a key, emitted a low note.
“Do you really want me to?”
I rolled my eyes at him a second time, “Yes, now move over!” I swatted at his arm again.
Soul muttered something I couldn't catch before abruptly pushed my bum onto his lap, allowing me to sit in front of the piano.
“Do you know where the middle C is?” his husky voice tickled the back of my neck. I shook my head sheepishly, worried that he'd poke fun of me and change his mind on teaching me to play the instrument altogether.
He took my right hand in his and guided my index finger to press down on a white key. A soft note rang through the air.

“You make it seem so easy!” I huffed, throwing my hands up in defeat. It had been well over an hour since the silver haired boy started to teach me how to play the piano.
“Well, for one, I've been playing a lot longer than you have,” he took hold of my hands, bringing them back down onto my lap. His arms wrapped around me. “You've only been playing for an hour. You can't just expect to be able to play right off the bat.”
I sighed, leaning back against his chest, “I know, I know. I just think it's really cool, how you can play the piano.”
I mentally cringed at myself for using Souls infamous word.
“You'll get there,” he rested his chin upon the top of my shoulder.
“Really?”
“I'm sure of it.”
“Are your legs okay?” I asked, pointing to his legs that acted as a chair for me. “We've been going at this for a while now.”
I went to go slide off his lap, concerned that I was hurting him, but his hold on my waist tightened more.
“Nah, I think I like you right here.” his lips pressed onto my cheek.
