A random Andalite, Maybe it's Ax? WHO KNOWS?!?Again I broke a few conceptions that I already had placed about the Andalites from my childhood. Mostly I based what they look like off of the cover art, so in my head they looked like centaurs with no mouths and stalk eyes. We all know that isn't right!
She says often that they have the body of a deer. I kind of took this further, I like to think they are lanky and quick, so I based the Andalite body off of the gerenuk and used a reference ([link] )
At one point when Cassie is describing Ax she says that you wouldn't even think about riding them because the back slopes down. I tried to get that in there too.
And of course the all important tail. I think the spike is probably part of the vertebrae so it would extend out the end instead of the side. That's my opinion though, so yeah.
Last, when I was a kid I used to think they had eight fingers on each hand. I have no idea why I thought this because I can't find anywhere that says the number of fingers, only that they have to many, so I just gave him six on each hand.

Ahhh, what fabulous-looking creatures. =] I was never actually really into Animorphs (there was a TV show, wasn't there? I think I watched that a bit, maybe), even though it seems sometime that would have been right up my alley as a kid. (Or even now.) Still, I've always been completely in love with these andalite things. So gorgeous. (Well, I have to admit, I'm rather fond of any centaur-like creatures.) And I like how very deer-like yours here is. ^__^

Yeah, there was a 52 (I think) long book series and a very short lived TV show in Nick. The TV show isn't that great, but I love it anyway, and some of the books can get cheesy but Applegate does a beautiful job constructing a world of good and evil and then tearing it down around you until there is just nothing but shades of grey and a war. I like the series a lot, and I adore Andalites!

Seven fingers, actually. Lol. I just did a picture of an andalite and as an afterthought, decided to see how other people designed them... when I came across yours here. I love your version! It's been 10 yrs or so since I've read these books so didn't even think about the sloped back as I was drawing, but I remember it now that you mentioned it. I did remember the deer-like description, but mine still came out too muscular... Your tail is also a lot more realistic. Great job!

Oh neat, I didn't remember that they had sloping backs, and I haven't seen anyone else draw them that way. O: I'll have to remember it next time I doodle one.

Yeah it surprised me too when I read it! She doesn't always throw that detail in, in fact I think I've seen it once, maybe twice, which is probably why most people miss it. I just thought it was a really neat detail she threw in.

Yeah, that makes sense--and none of the art on the books ever shows it (even though it's widely agreed that the cover art has a tendency to be laughably inaccurate about some things) so no wonder nobody really realizes it. Huh. But definitely a thing I'll think about when I doodle them again (I've just been throwing sketches onto tumblr, I need to sit down and focus long enough to make a finished drawing out of one, haha).
