Description Andalites, male and female.

Quite an old race, being in their "cave-man ages" around the time the dinosaurs on Earth were wiped out. They evolved on a planet quite similar to our own, main differences being the number of moons (some of which hold their own lifeforms) and that the Andalite homeworld somehow switched/lost suns (and survived).

They're a good natured race, helping other species, although are quite arrogant and may come off as racist, especially towards less advanced races.

BOOK: various - The Andalite Chronicles gives perhaps the best look

Animorphs and all related characters belong to K.A. Applegate

those hooves must have teeth when eating grass, anyway i love their scythe tails and the four eyes, two of them being eyestalks, and that voice box.

Did it actually say somewhere that there were purple Andalites? Because I remember Aldrea was purple on the cover of Hork-Bajir Chronicles, but I remember being confused by that because they seemed to always be described as blue.

I could've sworn somewhere it said females were purple. Either way, it was very hard not to think of the book covers while drawing these.

Ugh...I hate when they put the Blade on the tip of the Tail. The arms are too long, and the hands are too big, but great otherwise.

pictured them a bit more subtle (before saw K.A's images), but it's a pretty good image for Aldrea (which was vicous).

CatchMeInADream [2010-03-18 06:29:00 +0000 UTC]

Did their front legs really bend backwards like that? And did they really lack a fetlock? I only remember the Andalite lower body being described as deer or horse-like.

I love the tail blades, by the way. I always really hated how they looked on the covers. I always wondered, though, do you think they were born without the blades, and they grew as an Anadalite aged? Because giving birth to a child with blades does NOT sound like fun. (also wondered that about Hork-Bajir, too)

PandaAlsatian In reply to CatchMeInADream [2012-06-28 21:05:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm quite certain there was a baby Hork-Bajir featured in one of the books, and I think they described him as having nubs where blades would grow later. I assumed Andalites did something similar.

Master-of-the-Boot [2010-02-14 06:14:34 +0000 UTC]

You're better than any of the illustrators. I can finally see how the male's tail is scyth like. Thing looks like it's been stolen from the grim reaper.

When I see this I'm reminded of Ax, one of my favorite characters in the series.

Way to emphasize the gender differences.

Great job

This is twice as good as what the illustrators drew, honestly.

And this is giving me nostalgic pangs of wanting to re-read the series now.

Mecha-GREGOLE [2009-06-19 00:00:13 +0000 UTC]

I've got to applaud you for drawing them with their characteristic delicate arms. Artists always seem to ignore those and make the entire upper body look all too human.

I also like how you drew the three facial slits instead of that HIDEOUS apparatus the illustrators always drew.

Only thing that really bugs me is how thin their lower bodies look. I always got the impression that andalites were reasonably sturdy creatures, save the arms.

I'd have to agree with dodo up there xD

They were such pompous pricks, though it is always amusing to see them go on a cinnabon spree.

BON. BON. CIN-A-MON. MON. RRRRROOOLLL.

And as I recall the Emillist was involved slightly in their evolution, and perhaps switching suns.

Haha, anytime I walk past a Cinabun I can't help but saying "Bun-za" but I liked them, well, Axiil and Elfangor, I sorta didn't like going blind guy, and the other one with that female. kinda neutral about her, whatever their names are. and the one who became The Abomination, he was such a nice guy, too bad about him.

If you're talking about Alloran, Visser Three (later One)'s host, not really no. He was a war criminal who manage to mostly cover up his crimes and get promoted because of it.

He pretty much attempted to commit genocide on the Hork-Bajir homeworld with a 'quantum virus' (which attacks a specific species, causing molecular breakdown, i.e. slow horrible disintegration) when they couldn't fight off the Yeerk invasion. It mostly succeeded and vastly depopulated the planet of it's titular native species, which is why the Hork-Bajir were reclassified as a Class-Three host species instead of their original Class-Five.

If you had forgotten, the list goes:

Class 0: Race unsuitable for use as hosts. Examples, creatures with distributed brains or the now extinct Arn, who altered their race's biology to cause a vein in their brain to burst if a Yeerk entered.
Class 1: Poor host race, mildly passable but suffers from distinct physical flaws and weaknesses that make it unsuitable for mass conquest. Example, the Gedd from the Yeerk homeworld.
Class 2: Decent host race, but suffers from a serious drawback that makes their utility somewhat limited. Example, the Taxxons and their uncontrollable cannibalistic hunger.
Class 3: Ideal host race, but suffers from sharply limited population and is thus not sufficient for proper conquest. Hork-Bajir, after their planet was depopulated.
Class 4: Ideal host race, but too powerful to easily invade and conquer. Andalites are up here.
Class 5: Ideal host race, massive population, poor defenses, no serious physical flaws. The "perfect" species to use for mass infestation. Humans were classified in this ranking, and the Hork-Bajir before the quantum virus.

He made the quantum virus? Oh, I must have missed that, I get the host classifications, but thank you for that exact listing, I knly know of Alloran from the Andalite Chron. and I read that a while ago, so I forget some things, now that nothlit Arbron, (just looked up his name) him, I think I liked him, I don't know, I thought one of the Andalites besides Elfangor was cool,
