Description .

in shades of black and white

it's almost as though

my past is carved upon this stone

like the skin i wear

and it reminds me

of the hands placed before me. on me.

and we all wear our own stories

upon this skin of stone.

weathered with time.

Tooling through your gallery today and I had to pull the car over on this one... this stands out very well... I SO love that you didn't punch out the contrast like everyone else does around here... I love the greytones in this as well as the pose of the statue... those textures add such a nice touch as well... nicely done.

history can be heavy, like this stone, but it can also be light, feel weightless, like this stone.

hmm i guess it all depends, some days are heavy and some are light. i think we pull them up as we need them and make them signifigant... carved in a stone that can reshape itself...

a beautiful image. (but i think it was the description that made me think of these things...)

wow! I quite quite quite like this. The softness combined with the ridigidy of stone makes this photo really interesting to me. the composition is spot on, implying a mother cradling or a woman [an Isis figure] gathering stregnth. Gorgeous. and a favorite.

I began commenting on this late last night, but failed to finish with my words not able to translate my thoughts.
So here i am after my daily cups of morning coffee, hoping that my mind is clear enough to express itself through these hands of mine.
You know, you have this gift for seeing the deeper, underlying meaning in your photographs. Its really quite beautiful how you can gaze that clearly inside your self. I am quite envious of that. I think part of my problem might be that i spend so much time doing, and not enough reflecting. It's only recently that i've begun to question what may lie neath the surface.
I wonder if when you take these photos, you see the truths then or do they not reveal themselves until later? And if you shoot much more than you share here or if you're quite selective in what you photograph? Either way, i wouldnt change a thing. You are doing the right thing whatever the case may be... it shines so clearly.

As for this photo, the description instantly reminded me of the photograph of the beautiful smoking woman in my gallery. I was reminded of what i see when i look around me. Whether we want to or not, so much of who we are and who we have been, is expressed through our stories in skin. This being our interface with the world. Gestures, gait, folds of flesh, exchange of touch, eyes that observe and eyes that ignore. Our time here written into our skin. Some of us embracing how time and life molds us, others wanting more than anything to change that skin and forget the past. How lucky we all are to be human, able to realize and share all these ideas that comprise our awareness.

I think thats what i was trying to say last night, but, trust me, it came out COMPLETELY differently

Off to go pick up some slides from the past week. All 7 rolls... i must slow down.

I've come back to this photo a few times, coming to different conclusions almost each time. I think what makes me nuts about your photo is that it contradicts itself to me.

Rock. Skin toughened and soiled by life's weather...but no. I can't see that anymore for some reason. I did at first but now, for some reason I perceive more warmth from the delicate folds of clothing embracing her intimately and love or compassion from the fixation of the cradled hands together. Maybe it's the soft words in your description or maybe I'm just weird

The contrast in thought is simply breathtaking.

beautiful. could be viewed as a positive counter-complementer-pair to the veil of torin (you know, the one which is said to have kept the form of Jesus). i'd really love to make something out of this... to twist it and to alter it... could i... please? (it won't be a problem if you say no, of course, just say something )
