Description Kismet. A character who I'll be using in at least one OC competition here on dA, as well as writing a short story about, hopefully to be published. I really quite like her so far.

Age: 22

Personality - Kismet is programmed to kick ass. From the dance floor to doing the laundry, she does nothing halfway. Has the gift (or curse) of singular focus, throwing herself into whatever project or objective has her current interest. This can either work to her advantage (she pursues dance with a fervor that borders on a mania... and is very, very good because of it), or detriment (get her busy on something interesting and she practically won't notice a bomb going off next to her). Detests her psychic abilities and tries very hard just to be normal and stable... and fails miserably.

Strengths and weaknesses - If there's music, she's coordinated as a damn ninja. Give her a beat and Kismet can pirouette her way around a minefield safely. The same extends outside of dancing proper - as long as she can form a rhythm (she beatboxes if there's none available, doesn't realize she's doing it), she has extremely heightened dexterity, agility and control. Of course, it's a double-edged sword... if there's no music and her self-rhythm-accompanying is impaired, by her being distracted or something, she's likely to trip over nonexistent objects, flail, flop, and break valuable vases.

Quirks - Has an unusually high-pitched, oddly toned giggle. She hates it, and tries to keep it under control, usually making do with a wry smirk or forcedly throaty chuckle... but if something really catches her the right way (and Kismet has an odd sense of humor), she practically explodes with earsplitting lulz. Allergic to seafood; breaks out in hives. Beatboxes under her breath when nervous.

Mini-Bio: A fortune teller who wants to be a dancer. Her entire family have been in the psychic business, every last one a fake - except her. And they pressure her mightily to follow in the family business. By some weird fluke, Kismet actually IS a psychic, but she absolutely hates it... so tries to be the WORST psychic in the world. She makes crazy shit up, trying so hard to be wrong... but no matter how insane, it always comes true. Things turn strange very quickly around her. And all the girl wants is to dance...

I typically don't comment on things that are like a year old, but I just wanted to drop by and leave some feedback... since Kismet's recently become one of my fave characters here.

Okay, I really enjoy how you write and present her. She's got a strong, well-developed flaw and a bunch of fun gimmicks to compliment this. The psychic thing is fantastic, because I can imagine her getting into weird and uncoordinated That's So Raven-ish shit. How does she "receive" her visions? And are they controllable, as in she can actually do it manually, or do they always just pop up at the worst times? Moving on, her design is very nice as well. We need more bald characters, we really do. My favorite thing-- besides the flaws-- is her love for bellydancing. As a bellydance enthusiast myself, I can say right here that that's just plain awesome.

BUT BUT YES this here is an absolutely dandy character. You do a great job with writing her, and I can't wait to see how she goes over in those OCTs she's in. Very very nice work on this!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm seriously happy that you like her. SHE'S MAH GURL. <3 So effing much fun to write! Because she combines so much LULZERY and WEIRDNESS with social awkwardness and a little angst, and I can pretty much do anything I want with her. x3 She fits (OR DOESN'T, for fun effect!) into a bunch of different settnings, for lulz or srs bsnss.

And oh, HELL yeah, flaws are IMPORTANT. Characters like her could so easily turn into Mary-Sues, it's ridiculous. And now with the Twilight infamy, it's kind of a real turnoff of mine if a character's only flaw is being slightly clumsy. No. Kismet... is RIDICULOUSLY, IMPOSSIBLY UNCOORDINATED without music. And sucks at everything if she can't have a rhythm in SOME WAY. Plus the neurotic jittery awkwardness and things never coming out right. x3

WHICH TOTALLY EFFECTS HER POWERS. Because yeah, part of it is the random-ass visions (which WERE partially inspired by That's So Raven. I LIKED THAT SHOW. WHAT.) but also it's - if she 'makes a prediction', it WILL come true. No matter how freaking ridiculous it is, and they are ALWAYS RIDICULOUS. Because - okay, if anyone but KISMET HAD THIS POWER, they would totally be a Godmoding Sue, and preposterous. Except she... is kind of incapable of using it to MAKE THINGS MAKE SENSE, and be LESS insane. Partly because she DOESN'T WANT IT, so she'll TRY TO BE WRONG... and it won't work.

And hell yes, bellydancing is LOVE. <3 I only know a little bit, but what I do I LOOOOVE SO HAAAAAAAAARD. IT'S AMAZINGS.

Yes DEFINITELY, bellydancing is so therapeutic. Easy, healthy, fun, and something you can do by yourself once you survive the classes fff.

Thanks for answering my question! I definitely agree with you on the flaws thing. The thing that pisses me off with flaws is when people tack them on like jewelry: "easily angered" or "doesn't trust others" or "clumsy" and the like. A good flaw is a JUMPING POINT, something that drives (or TRIPS in Kismet's case) the character and/or story along. Plus a flawed character is just more fun, haha, who wants to spend time spouting about how sparklyspecial a character is anyway? :'D

Ooh, the classes are really hard? :< I've never taken formal lessons, just had a few one-on-one sessions with an awesome teacher I had in high school.

And yer so welcome! :3 If ye haven't noticed by now, I LOVE babbling about my weird characters. xD

But HELL YEAH yer right - a 'flaw' can't just be like an afterthought, they have to somehow affect the plot! Like... Okay this is a silly one, but in round 3 of TSR, Kismet's allergy to shellfish became an actual plot point. Even if they're random, they need to HAVE EFFECTS and MATTER, not just - yeah, ye put it so well, be tacked on like shiny pieces of jewelry.

It was kind of hard at first, but quick and fun. The hardest part was getting over the nervousness of dancing in public... which I'd imagine is the feeling in any dance class!

AAAAH that so cool though, I thought that her shellfish allergy was just a miscellaneous trait of hers. Haha that's hilarious! How did the allergy tie into the plot? :'D

Yeah, I hear that! x3 I've got my first day of jazz/hiphop tomorrow - a little nervous, but I've danced lots before, so. :> It's just the new-class jittershit.

OH LOL. Okay, Kismet and her opponent Florian were with Zandria at a carnival. And Florian and Zandria went to ride together in the Tunnel of Love, leaving Florian's son Konny with Kismet (who fails at babysitting). Konny told Kismet to smell his shirt, and because Kismet's a freak too, she did - it turned out that Florian (who has a heart of gold, but is not, uh, experienced at parenting) had put his shirt in the dishwasher, not the washing machine... with some old shrimp.

Kismet breaks out in hives and sneezing, which gives Konny a chance to slip away and spy on the princess and his dad. Then Kismet goes and looks for him in a house of mirrors, where she runs into Isaac and... CONFLICT ENSUES.

Yaaay!

Hiphop WOOOOOOOOOoooo - except she does it like a CRAZY ROBOT, but the SMOOTHEST ROBOT EVER, and I'm like WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR BODY I DON'T THINK MINE MOVES LIKE THAT. Right now we're doing like... simple groove moves to hiphop music. And lol I say 'simple;' but I have yet to NOT FAIL. xD

And I have found that I am absolutely retarded when it comes to dancing in a room with mirrors. Because I try to watch HER and do what she does, but then I get watching her REFLECTION and I get it BACKWARDS.

Oh, the strings (in The Book of Love, I take it?) are actually from the original track. I has a program that can remove most of the vocals from tracks, so I make my own karaoke backgrounds. :> I love that song so much - I used Peter Gabriel's version. His is just... glorious.

I love how she has this feminine air whilst dancing in that lilac/purple outift, though still retaining this strong personality, but it's a lot more delicate than the absolutely "I'm gonna kick your arse, and take your money, and then I'm gonna kick your money's arse" outfit and attitude on the right!
