Description Translation from Chicken Scratch to English :

1) Hello and welcome to my Running Tutorial where I'll be teaching you how to draw this young woman running in different views and positions.

2) First of all, I'd like to introduce you to my "stick man method" where, as you can see, I've drawn the pose using lines as the major part of the legs, arms, and torso and circles as the joints and the head, as well as the feet, hands and (since it is a woman) the breasts.

3) When using this method, I always start with the head, then the torso, followed by the legs and finally the arms, but I don't want to limit you to one strict way of using this method. Try different ways of drawing it. You can even use boxes or extra circles if you feel like that helps you. But always remember to to keep the stick man very lightly draw, because you'll erase that part later.

4) Now the fun starts. Draw the stick man in the pose you want, adding a little extra oval on the limb closest to you. This reminds you which arm is in what position. Then continue to draw a rough draft of your person. You should wait until later to add details. Remember! You still have to erase the stick man lines once you finish the contour lines (outlines). I've drawn to examples here, one with the dominant (closer) leg in the back and one with it in the front, as with the arms. The examples also show you how I draw a face in profile view (roughly).

5) Here is where it gets a little tougher, because this is where overlapping comes into play for a 3-Dimensional effect. The first example here is about-face full view. Women are naturally constructed with their knees pointed inward. Males are the exact opposite.

6) You should know that the human body is made entirely of cylinders. This is why the spandex short I drew on the model is helpful. Do you see the ends of the shorts? And how they are curved in opposite ways? This is an optical illusion that creates a 3D effect that the left leg is farther in front whereas the right leg is farther in the back.

7) Here we have a few close-ups of some different clothes that women could run in. For skirts, since it's more skin tight, it shows more of the woman's figure.

8) As for more dress-like apparel, it doesn't show much of the woman's figure, but more of the folds in the fabric.

9) For sprinting, people tend to clench their fists, so here are a few examples of hands, also using the stick man method.

10) And finally, if your woman (or man) has no shoes on, here are some examples of how I draw feet. Once again, the stick man method comes in as a huge help.

Not to be rude but the girl running is wrong, I don't mind if the drawing is perfect but when running if the right leg is behind the right arm should be in the front for balance and here is all the way around.

Then everything else seems fine.

I understand where you're coming from, and I completely agree with you. But please, keep in mind I was only 15 when I drew this and only trying to improve myself and maybe help others like me.

I also invite you to look at my current works in my gallery to see how I've improved over the last three years!

Thank you so much for showing me this!  I always had trouble on how to make someone run when I am drawing. But now that's all cleared up! I can now draw!

This definitely has flaws...This is not meant to be harmful, but a helpful critique, so I am sorry if this seems hurtful or blunt!

First off, the persons hair does not move while she is 'running.' This bothered me quite alot, aswell as how big you made her hair seem...

Next, there are alot of problems with the foreshortening while she is running in numbers 5 and 6. I would advise using reference photos of real non-anime people running.

In addition to that, the skirt part also bothers me. Clothing clings in the direction you are running, therefore the skirt would flatten to the front of her legs, instead of bulking like you made it.

Finally, I have only seen little kids close a fist around their thumb. Older people know that this is very bad. If you were running, and fell, you would break your thumb or sprain your wrist because you could not move your hand the right way in time, and if you punched something you would do more harm to yourself than what you were punching, possibly even breaking your thumb. Also, drawn it just looks awkward to see someone with their thumb inside of their fist.

I hope this did more help than harm.

No, no! I really do appreciate everything you've told me! However, you should know that I was 15 when I drew this. Honestly, I hate it. I didn't try as hard as I should have and it obviously shows, but I just wanted artists younger than I was to grasp a better understanding of the position of a person running rather than show exactly what it looks like to a tee.

Now, I see all those things and realized I did them wrong. There are a few things you listed that I haven't noticed and really appreciate you pointing out. I'll definitely be using the points you have listed as I progress my art career.

Thank you, again.
