My first MK of the year. Yay.I thought I'd try some soft shading I've seen other artists do; key word being tried.
...it's not very good.
I don't know how you all do it! I think I've looked at maybe 3 tutorials and I still couldn't figure it outAnd I'm not sure what I wanted to do with the composition at all, honestly.

I think this is pretty decent "soft shading". Although, this is coming from someone who deals almost entirely in solid-line-block-shading....
Regardless, what you ended up with is a very charming piece of art~.

If you're interested.. I was going for something like this with my shading: fav.me/d66hnd3Β (as you can tell, I didn't even come close to that lol). I think I should've been a little more diligent with it to make it look more 3D and.. well, in the case of the cape,Β like cloth. Like you, I usually resort to cel-shading which is a 1000x easier haha
But rant aside, I'm glad you found it charming nonetheless (=

I think the soft shading worked really well here! I think it really compliments the shading you did in the lines. The texture of the sand/ground looks really nice, too.

But also, I think you did very well with the whole thing - the soft shading is done very well--- PFFt, I WANNA SHADE LIKE THAT.
And the angle with speedlines makes it quite dynamic, great job :0
