Description
How did a purple hedgehog give birth to a pink one, a blue one, and a green one? And who was Manic, Sonic, and Sonia's father? How does Sonic run so fast without protection? Imagine taking a bird to the face at supersonic speed. Those are the questions that sparked this project. Maybe the animators thought the presence of three blue hedgehogs in the same scene would make the kiddies hold their fingers in front of their face and question whether or not they were seeing double, but I wanted to see how the triplets would look with more... genetically consistent character designs. I also wanted to see if Sonic would look any better with a longer snout since I've always thought his original one was too short for a hedgehog. I managed to find an oddly fitting name for Queen Aleena's husband, I settled on Merrick since, according to the site I was consulting, Aleena means light and Merrick means dark. Sonic Underground had this underlying theme of harmony and balance and waste-of-time music videos (except for that one 80s-sounding one, that was cool), so it seemed fitting. Plus Merrick sounds a bit like Manic or Sonic, and apparently it's a variant of the name Maurice which is Sonic's actual name in the comics... why do I know all this? I need to get a life...

P.S. And for the love of-- Sonic, you're fighting a gorilla war against a mad tyrant who usurped your mother's throne, when Manic wants to steal something from Robotnik, you let him steal something from Robotnik. "But it's wrong!" No, a deranged super-genius is lording over your planet turning rebels, musicians, and whoever he feels like into robots, take the kid gloves off or do the resistance a favor and take a long run off a short roboticizer conveyer belt.
