Description And now for something...completely different.

I've mentioned in my profile I'm getting into photography some of late. It all started at work actually, by being dissatisfied with the photos we had on hand of our bakery products. I knew with a little work I could do much better.

And so over the course of several months, with a little research and a lot of self-teaching, I did do better, using the little 5MP point-and-shoot camera we had, always operating in full manual mode. But still I wasn't satisfied with the results I was getting. Too much noise in the photos, even in with a low ISO setting of 100 or 200.

So then I did a lot of research, convinced the boss to purchase a camera (a Nikon D7000), along with several lenses, a tripod and a basic lighting setup. I struggled at first, never having used a DSLR. But in a few months, I started being able to consistently produce results like the picture you see above.

Voila! Much better.

Nice shot! Your lighting looks so professional :]

You could use a paper napkin of a complementary colour (blue might work I think) to make the food stand out more, since your focal point appears to be the red pepper and the background almost the same shade of red- just saying.

Thanks! It's actually a really simple two light setup, using fluorescent bulbs and umbrellas to diffuse the light, plus one reflector to bounce some back. Would like more lights, but convincing the boss to spend more would be difficult

I'd also agree with you about the napkin. After having taken this shot and reviewed it, I immediately wished I'd used my blue tablecloth instead
