Description I made this piece a while ago, but I didn't upload it until now for some reason. These are Winged Hussars (circa 1650,"Deluge" times - they didn't used wings then) charging on some poor musketers.
Wow, it was freakingly hard to draw! I probably spent 2/3 time researching (possible horses' height and appearance, tack, sabres, principles of horseback fighting and musketers' look) and only 1/3 of time drawing! Plus crowded scenes are always a challenge for me.
Illustration made for Veto! SGK. Made with GIMP-GPS
Enjoy!
-----------------------------
Narysowałam ten rysunek jakiś czas temu, ale wrzucam dopiero teraz. To husarze (okres ok.1650, Potop Szwedzki - prawdopodobnie nie używali wtedy skrzydeł) szarżujący na jakichś pechowych muszkieterów.
Wow, dosyć ciężko się to rysowało. Spędziłam 2/3 czasu szukając źródeł (możliwy wzrost koni, rząd, szable, zasady konnej szermierki szablą i wygląd muszkieterów) i 1/3 czasu tak naprawdę rysując. Zatłoczone sceny zawsze są dla mnie dużym wyzwaniem.

Miłego oglądania!

Thank you! Along with my few other works it appeared in latest 'Veto!' expansion (it's a card game set in 16th/17th cent., in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth).

Ah, Ah Ah, WOW! I think I should feel jealous that you drew the Hussar, riding proudly on his steed, all depicted beautifully here! The detail on the decorations is just amazing, and the coloring makes it even better!

I can totally understand about the time consumed to do research for a drawing, though in this case, my knowledge of equestrian rides and horse are very little

Thank you! I'm a bit unsure about the colors because they seem too lively for a battlefield... But all this red and gold was exactly what made Hussars so famous, so I guess it's okay.
From what I know hussars' horses should probably stand +/- 160cm tall in withers.
The mount is based loosely on malopolski horse which is said to be a breed with most resemblance to hussars' horse (I gave it more 'spanish' head&neck shape).
The tack's based on various museum parade tacks and some recontructions from around the web (also a bit of Osprey's illustrations ).

This really is amazingly beautiful. Reminds me so much of the old classic paintings (and a little bit of Mount & Blade, too).

Thank you very much!
Yes, the horse has a little bit Mount&Blade-ish pose and head shape. Have you played With Fire & Sword expansion?

Yes! Though not very much. I spent more time with Warband.

I love this I really like the 'rush' movement in this piece!
The shading on each subject, the different textures and the soft painterly feeling over it makes it look like it would belong next to the greatest paintings of that time
I think you did a very good job here

Thank you for such kind words! To be honest I was inspired more by masters of romantism and realism, but I love baroque art regardless of it I'm glad you like it, I wanted to make the scene as dynamic as possible.

Ahh you're very welcome !
I can see that, the art then really was magnificent ^^
In that case, I think your mission is accomplished
