Elysian Expanse

Elysian refers to the Elysian fields from Greek Mythology and is used in the title as "heavenly". Expanse refers to the unfathomable expanse space holds. Together the title says "Heavenly Expanse".

The two characters depicted are also imitating a well-known lore of the two wolves who chase the sun and moon. My fursona (on the left), Thunder, represents Hati, who chases the moon (blue glowing orb), mainly because she is a creature of night. Global Wolf (on the right) represents Skoll, who is chasing the sun, mainly because he is a creature of day.

Ultimately this piece depicts both of our characters in a dreamlike state as they fly through the skies of space. Being winged creatures, the skies are their home, and this may be perhaps a fantasy of flying farther than the sky of their world can hold.

Whether or not it is but a dream, I always will try to reach for the stars.

DEAR. GOD.

This. This has been my work and pride, my baby. I've been working on this since at least November of last year (probably earlier), bit by bit in between school and whatnot.

This was the first digital piece I ever began working on. I started it in a strange stroke-y style, but with a realistic background. I then changed it to gradient after getting frustrated with my first style (even after I'd put a few hours into it ).

Because it was one of the first digital pieces I EVER DID with Photoshop, I did just about every mistake in the book. The file even got corrupted at some point (I couldn't open it...) which made me wanna cry, but my friend fixed it for me (computer nerds ftw, ilu all doods) and I continued working on it.

After realizing my good friend , who drew the lines, had been waiting for it for over three months, I kicked my butt into gear and really tackled it this week. I got today off becauase of all the snow, so I dedicated this entire day to cleaning up my nooby mistakes and really pimping this thing out.

(And then after finishing the gradient FINALLYY i realized how unrealistic the gradient was with the realistic bg so I added some cool shadows.)

I am. So happy. With this. You guys don't even know. I don't give a flip if it's strange-looking or whatever, this has taken so long and so much work to make, and the result literally made me start to cry. And I can honestly say I've spent the most time on this work than any before it. it's one of those pieces I'll never ever forget.

So here's to my first successful digital piece that I don't feel insecure about! D| I hope you like it, Globy.

Good god, I feel so elated. ;n; The fact that I've always wanted PS an finally got it, and now I can actually even paint digital works, it's just all so amazing to me. yay technology!

This took well over 40 hours to complete. Maybe a couple more hours slapped on for all the technical difficulties I experienced with it. Done with Photoshop Creative Suites 5 with a Wacom Bamboo tablet.
