... nice job. Now I'm getting ideas in my head for a BSG-based cartoon with the same style as the Clone Wars show xD
Looks awesome!
(seriously though, the graphic style is almost identical to the one from the CW show!)

How did you make those cloud pillars? I am doing a similar scene and am hitting a wall on this.

Cloud objects in Vue are typically a group of spheres (shaped into a cloud type shape) with a cloud material on them. You can make your own sphere cloud out of 5-6 spheres into whatever shape you like and then apply the cloud material.
Cloud on brother!

I tried that, it doesn't fit in or have the same shape.

Hmm depends on the shape you are after, also what do you mean by "doesn't fit in"?
If you use a Spectral atmosphere and a spectral cloud object it should look good, beyond that its all about the shapes you put together. I would take apart a cloud object and mess with the shape, maybe copy/paste it so you have more spheres to play with. Try adjusting the cloud material to fit in your scene, often the default cloud material is not the best for the scene, but there are others you can try or modify. Let me know how you get on !

Hello again, friend,
"Doesn't fit in:" this ambiguous term applies to the spheres just looking like gray white orbs and don't have the feathery or lumpy detail that I can set in the cloud layer via the atmosphere properties. It's like mixing clouds from two different planets. Not sure if there is a work-around for that. I appreciate your time and ideas, every trial and error in this program is a new learning experience.

Thanks ! Was going for a slightly more realistic look than on my previous deviations. A few years ago it would have been tricky to do this, but now it just takes a bit of time and render power !

Well, you certainly used the "render power" to the best of your capabilities to create this monumentally incredible image. Fantastic!

Not fluids, in Vue I use a series of combined spheres to create the shape of the clouds ,then apply a volumetric cloud material(which allows for nice transparency effect) to them and play with the material until i like it. Vue comes with quite a lot of volumetric materials and they are a good jump off point to make more complicated ones like these. I've not played with Maya for a while now but I think you can replicate a similar effect there. If not fluids is the straightforward way [link]

ahhhh. vue black magix! I'm just getting into vue, and honestly, I'm far from knowing my way around its vast library of features and such. I'll look into volumetrics like you mentioned though, sounds like a very interesting solution.
