I can't believe how detailed the planets are. The only thing I don't like is that the stars don't look quite realistic. Other than that its great

Nice, the moon's way too small though, needs to be 2-3 times that size to be accurate (1/6 the size of earth)

To many stars indeed. And you clould have toned the glow down, just a little. But other than that, its very well done.

To many stars indeed. And the glow is a little to much. But other than that, its very well done.

first of all, fantastic talent. it's quite a breathtaking scene, and you have captured it very well.

now of course, seeing as you asked for comments, i will nitpick it, but remember, i think it's fantastic to begin with.

- i think the moon shouldn't be so close to the earth, perhaps a little more to the right so they can be in perspective. it looks too close as it is.
- the sun should be more yellow-y, otherwise it doesn't look like Sol, and this piece could be mistaken for just another space scene, instead of the earth and moon.
- a few too many stars, they look good but maybe a bit too cluttered.

hope that helps!

Good work but you should work on the atmosphere's more, they don't look realistic.

awesome work man. only thing that bothers me is the dark ring around the moon. if there was a glow you wouldnt see that dark ring between the moon and the earth.

I like this one alot. The only thing keeping it from being a is that the moon has an atmosphere. Kind of odd.

Anyways, everything looks great. The lighting in particular.

This is one of best works of the earth and sun...

Grade A work on the lighting, giving it more depth and realism.

Quite nicely done. I just have a slight problem with the sun. If it's that bright, you shouldn't really be able see the stars. But otherwise, very well done.

evanescent-void [2004-06-11 17:19:34 +0000 UTC]

Very nice composition, the idea is a bit overused though nice execution none-the-less. There are some things that I'd like to point out: for one both the earth and moon textures are too flat, I would suggest adding a bump map of some kind to give it that depth and sense of realism (check out Greg Martin's planet tutorial , on adding light and shadow layers and his two planet pull aparts (1 ,2 )). Be subtle though, avoid extreme contrast. Also the star field around the sun should decrease as it is approaching it (due to the light pollution of the sun the stars closest to the center should not be visible, think of the effect of big cities on the sky at night), maybe by putting the sun layer as screen it will eliminate the stars closest to the center. I would also check into those shadows on both the planet and the moon, they seem a bit solid and seem to end a tad abruptly; then again it may just be me.

Nice piece overall .

thanks.. well actually if u look at real photos of the earth the shadows stop almost immediately so this is actually too much of a gradient if anything lol

and your right about the stars

also i dont like using anything from greg martin's tutorials is that is one thing which is over used :S

anyway thanks

"also i dont like using anything from greg martin's tutorials is that is one thing which is over used"

Why do you think this? His tutorials can yield great benefits if taken in right, the thing that you are seeing overused is people mimicking the steps while disregarding both technique and expansion.

ye sorry mate i really worded that badly lol..

what i mean was i havent actually really tried expanding on his tutorials before.. in my younger days i did a simple 'copy to the last word' pic from his tutorials and i got a lot of heat from doing it.. so i told myself never again..

and personally i dont like the way most planets come out when they are done with bumps and stuff

anyway.. hope that cleared it up lo... i didnt mean what i said

You've got an atmosphere around the moon and it doesn't look particularly right. Other than that it's excellent as always.

very nice, how did you make the patterns on the earth? the creation of the individual stars is the impressive part.
