*ahem* Back to the world of proper grammar and internet etiquette. I think I'll post my head canons even if they're OOC sometimes, just in case someone might be interested in them. But mostly because it's been banging around in my head for far too long and it's going to drive me insane until I write it down/draw them already. For whatever reason, I can't get enough of ZASR (I've scarcely heard of ZimAndScoodgeRelationship in all my days of this fandom, and I must say, I'm very disappointing in you, fan base.) And art for my favorite ship is virtually nonexistent here, so luckily you have ME for that! I'll happily take the ZASR burden upon my own two shoulders, when the need arises (it arises often.)

So first I'll lay the groundwork (and then very get into more details as I release art):

Zim and Skoodge's relationship is... strained, to say the least. The thing is, these two never really had that "honeymoon phase" at any point in their relationship, and they pretty much skipped straight to "old marriage 20 years and 3 kids down the road." These two argue... A LOT. ...EVERY DAY. FIVE TIMES A DAY. About everything from deep unresolved emotional trauma to what's happening for dinner tonight, and all that lies in between of course. In Skoodge's words, Zim is 'difficult to love,' and I'm sure you and I can agree with that. Zim is NOT the lovey-dovey type. Skoodge isn't really one either, but Zim is VERY conservative about it. And romance in public? Over his dead body! Not to say Zim doesn't ever open up and allow romance to blossom, but these are VERY far in between and usually happen either after a big argument or to sweet-talk Skoodge into doing something for him. (Not to say he's using Skoodge to get things. It's just a bit 'odd' that he suddenly gets in the mood and enjoys some lovin' only when Skoodge has something more to offer.)

Zim also tends to start fights, and Skoodge easily falls into them and escalates them more than they had to be. Why? Zim isn't afraid to show his feelings and will easily start arguments over small things, but he's usually not as upset as he makes himself out to be. Skoodge, on the other hand, is a MAJOR passive-aggressor and will do whatever Zim wants without complaint, even though inside he's pretty annoyed about it. Zim, being Zim, takes advantage of this OFTEN and even presents himself as Skoodge's superior. As his irritation grows, Skoodge's emotions will build until they explode even at the tiniest thing. Also note that for Skoodge, it takes a LOT to make him angry, so when Zim is only a little bit angry about something, Skoodge will misinterpret his reaction as more angry than necessary.

Now I have my own interpretation of Skoodge as well, which can get pretty complex but I'll try to tell as much as possible here: As mentioned, Skoodge is a huge passive aggressor and will (usually) find it difficult to speak up for himself. He's also very self-conscious and lacks self-esteem. This is one of the big reasons why Skoodge is drawn toward Zim- he's extremely inspired by Zim's overabundant confidence, even to the point where he'll put Zim on a higher pedestal. (In a way this works, because Skoodge likes thinking highly of Zim, and Zim of course likes Skoodge thinking he's all that.) Skoodge also tends to be a big clutz (mainly because of his lack of confidence, which causes him to mess up often.) These mistakes only works to lower his confidence, and he's almost a little afraid of Zim scolding him for these mistakes. (Zim does scold him which Skoodge takes very seriously, but in reality Zim doesn't care as much as he lets on. Actually, he forgets about it minutes later. Skoodge on the other hand would remember and grind about this all day or longer, poor guy.)

So that's a lot of negatives and those are just off the top of my head (and there's more nitty gritty in there) but don't be mistaken- this is far from what their relationship is all about, which I'll get to in a moment. Though it's important to keep in mind: Zim and Skoodge's relationship isn't always compatible, or even healthy at times. In fact, they've tried this before! In my head-canons, Zim and Skoodge were born the same day (I like to think a batch of smeets are produced at the same time in the same day and then born the same day after so long. In this case, since Zim and Skoodge were part of the same 'batch' with Skoodge being born approximately an hour or less ahead of Zim, making Skoodge older than Zim...by just a little bit.) Because of this, they met each other and formed a 'friendship' if you could call it that. They had been in contact all their lives, and then at some point about halfway through- when Zim and Skoodge were around 50-80 human years old, they decided to start dating. Those reasons are yet to be fully developed, but they DID date for about 20 or so human years. They eventually split because they argued all the time and it just wasn't working. Now, about a hundred years down the road, this ship takes place around when Skoodge is forced to live with Zim at his Earth base. Their path to another relationship is pretty slow, as Zim at first treats Skoodge like a liability. During this time, Skoodge asks repeatedly if Zim needs any help with his mission (which Zim goes through great lengths to establish that he DOES NOT want Skoodges help.) Eventually after Zim has failed for so long, Skoodge just takes it upon himself to get a disguise similar to Zim's and show up at school as Zim's cousin...without even telling him! Yup, he was pissed. But eventually he gets over it, and by being forced to spend a lot of time together at school (they were always right next to each other during lunch and recess and so forth) they forced a small friendship which eventually grew into a deeper friendship. It takes many many months, maybe a whole year (yet to be decided) of getting closer and closer to each other until they get a little too close for comfort! Without either of them fully realizing it, they get much more touchy and feely until one day they find they're practically in a relationship already- holding hands and cuddling up to each other and the like. They kind of realize this in a sort of gravely manner, and that's when they decide to give their relationship a shot again!

Now, onto what makes this ship work shipping! The thing I love about my ship here is that it's so BUILT UP and at the very center of it all is an extremely deep bond between these two. On the surface they bicker often, and many times they appear distant and almost cold toward one another, but the fact is, neither of them could bare to part from each other. Skoodge needs Zim to help him feel confident in himself, and he looks up to Zim as one of his closest friends. Though Skoodge would admittedly have a much easier time parting from this relationship, Zim is (secretly) very worried that Skoodge might leave him if he gets to be too much too handle. Zim realizes that Skoodge is really his only friend (other than Gir, now) and he didn't fully realize his loneliness until Skoodge filled that slot. He also (secretly, cough, secretly) has some admiration and respect for Skoodge because he recognizes Skoodge is really the only one who's ever had his back all this time (as Skoodge has constantly helped Zim as a friend throughout his life when everyone else has openly despised him.) As a result, Zim does make some attempts to take it down a notch when it comes to Skoodge, because he's scared of him finally getting fed up and leaving for good. Though Skoodge does feel like he has to put up with a lot when it comes to Zim, he's VERY attached to Zim as a best friend, and constantly seeks to do all that he can for him. Skoodge feels happy doing things for Zim to show what their friendship means to him, and this also helps build his confidence (being around Zim in general just makes him feel like he could conquer the world!) Skoodge also finds reason and purpose in being there for Zim, even though the things he does are usually little things. They both help to build each other up, and at the heart of it, they're really just such close friends that they decided to become even closer, and to express that in a romantic relationship.

On the top they look like a crappy couple, but underneath all them layers, is a deep and complex relationship build on loyalty and trust and like.... I love these guys!

Now this final bit of information I'm going to release is the most OOC, so bear with me. Like I said, Zim and Skoodge rarely have intimate moments, let alone VERY intimate moments. But when these moments DO happen, it's just totally filled with all kinds of pillow talk and pouring their squeedyspooch hearts out and confessions and the like. During these times, though Zim is definitely the one who wears the pants in this relationship any other day, Zim becomes very submissive (and naive) when it comes to anything sexual. On the other hand, Skoodge loves taking the lead, so they're the perfect couple! And they both LOVE this side of the other person! Zim loves how Skoodge can take charge, and Skoodge thinks submissive Zim is the most adorable thing ever (and you know, so do I.) He also likes to see submissive Zim because he enjoys seeing a new side to Zim which he otherwise never gets to see, the side which is emotionally responsive and almost vulnerable. And even though Zim is normally almost always very standoffish when it comes to any kind of display of affection, during these intimate moments, they just can't get enough of each other. It's during these times that Zim will confess to such things as his fears that Skoodge might get sick of him, or he might say he wished he could be a better partner. Skoodge of course would listen with full sincerity and would gently confirm that he has no plans to leave him, and that their relationship is the best it's ever been.

Oh, and one last thing I want to quickly clear up, lest I never remember to mention it: This is a boy + boy relationship, and though on Earth it holds some controversy, on Irk it's really nothing too exciting. According to Irkens, romance in general isn't exactly something to be proud of, but at least ANY kind of romance (whether it be with someone of the same sex, with your dog, with your brother, with your pet rock) is pretty much equally as shameful. It's all a shameful act, but it's not as if it's illegal. Most Irkens would just roll their eyes and probably talk shit behind your back, but that's pretty much the extent of the consequences you'd have to face. In any case, Zim and Skoodge feel more comfortable being in a relationship while on Earth, because as far as they're concerned, no one cares and if they cared, it wouldn't matter to them. In any case, they keep their relationship on the down-low and act as nothing but friends while at school (Dib doesn't even know about it, though he eventually finds out about it much later. That's a different story.)
