Description I'm not very familiar with the castles of Antwerp (a province of Belgium). Yesterday my father and uncle (who both, unlike me, live there) took me to see some interesting parts of Antwerp. I'm extremely fascinated by old buildings (wether they are castles, farms or chapels).

This is one of the buildings we took a visit to. Of course this castle is private property (so I took this picture by sticking my camera through the gate), because if it was property of the state, it would either be masacrated with modern additions or just fully demolished and replaced by a modern apartment. When it comes to conserving old architecture Belgium is probably one of the worst states there is (especially the Flemish side (which I happen to be part of)).

Even though these landowners have the luxury of living in these magnificent buildings, you don't want to know what misery they go through to keep them standing.

Oh my...
I'm speechless.
You have no idea how lucky you are to live in an area where these sights still stand. I wish I could travel & see places like this. Saddly I'm stuck in the U.S.

I am really, I just think it's a shame and just plainly stupid that people have to fight to keep these beautiful structures standing. In Scotland they simply don't remove any ruins, which is amazing. I took a train to Glasgow once and could spot at least 10 different ruins while sitting on that single train.
Of course I'm happy that I was able to take this shot and that there are still buildings like these in Belgium.

But the US has it's charms as well. The amazing Art Deco architecture in Manhatten, the beautiful nature of the Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon. And trust me, our Belgian politics aren't that amazing either. Only recently we've broken the world record of "the longest time without a government" and recently our politicians are claiming they've solved a 50 year old problem which will probably return in the future.

Every country has it's ups and downs, it's the ups that pull you away from your daily problems and which help you ignore those downs.

Thanks for the comment and the fave though, I'm glad you like this picture
