Maybe it would have been a little different, and a touch stronger with a more angular style (Maybe...), but I actually really like this, and how it turned out. It's something that I'd be more interested in over something anguar.

do you think that maybe if Larroca did more finished pencils that it may be different?

YES!!! I knew I wasn't making this up!
this was one of (if not )the first comic books i've read. I recognized the art immediately.
thank you for this.

Yeah, I'm more a fan of tight pencils myself. I can ink the loose and sloppy stuff but it's just not fun for me and about a thousand times more work.
I really wish my hand was steady enough to ink outside of the digital realm, but que cera cera.

It's really more a matter of my hand shaking when I'm using it. I can undo the really bad lines that I ink when it's digital, but I can't undo the lines on paper. I think I've got mild muscular damage or something.

I havent really talked about this much in public but now Im compelled. A few months back I herniated a disk in my neck pretty severely. I was told Id eventually need vertebra fusion surgery. I went the Chiropractic route in the meantime to restore the natural curve in my neck which has straightened out from years of being hunched over the drawing board. One lead to the other. Upon returning to work, however, I discovered that I now have a very minor tremor in my drawing hand. Its almost imperceptable and Id never even know it if I didnt do what I do for a living. Ive always had a little bit of a shake but it always went away after a good half hour of work. Now it doesnt go away. Ive figured out a way to compensate by using the finger from my left hand to help stabilize my right when I lay the pen or brush down on the page each time. It works ok but does slow me down and limit me a bit. Moreover, its very frustrating and a little scary. My Chiro' said its nerve irritation from the injury and the work we've been doing with my neck. He says it should go away in time. The other day it seemed to be getting a little better but then Ill have another bad day or two. Im not panicing yet but I am interested in talking to people who may have encountered a similar problem.
Have you ever been checked out? Im interested in hearing any info' you might have. I can TOTALLY relate to what youre talking about here. It sucks.

I haven't had it checked out, no. Mostly because when I have health insurance I never think about it. I notice I have the worst time of it when I'm fatigued or badly stressed. I find if I rest, give it a day off here and there (don't do anything more stressful than watch TV and eat) it's not bad for a few days again.
I'd say have a doctor that specializes in wrists and forearms take a look at it, they'll have a better understanding of what's going on than any other type of doctor. I'm glad to hear you're seeking additional opinions and taking a non-invasive route until you can get more information. I wish I could be more helpful, but I really need to get myself employed and insured again before I'll have any idea what truly happened to me.

I guess I must just be a fan boy then because I always loved your inks over Sal. I always thought your work on him was on par with the stuff you did with Joe.

It's odd to hear your commentary on these Salvador pieces, because in my opinion, that was Salvador at his best. When he lost an inker and did all the style changes, with X-treme, Udon, ink washes, et al, I was pretty sad.

Well, I'd seen her work before. Actually I think it was one image that struck me and stayed with, and she had THE super heroic figure (for want of a better word) - all the curves, tone and beauty. Almost Amazonian like. When I decided to try giving the pinup artist thing a serious shot, I thought of her and asked her. Oddly enough, now I know Mandie a bit better, I think she's awesome. I've got a good idea of the direction I want to take the first few pinups I'll produce featuring her. She and have made my life easier already, and I haven't even started yet.
And I don't know about you, but the comics industry- being a fan of it- is hard the better an artist gets. You know how incestous styles and certain time periods are, right? So when an artist finds their own voice, like Salvador now, its hard to follow his work when its too easy to follow the half dozen other guys still doing what he used to do. That was the case for me back on the X-books, when it was Chris Bachalo, Brandon Peterson, Leinil Yu, Liquid! and you. Between the odd spurts of summer events, I'm still waiting for the glory days to come back, even though I know they won't. Every now and then, we get close, but...
Either that or its the lack of money to follow the 'happenings on'.

Yeah, theres just something about Mandy that makes me want to look. She's not your typical beauty. She has a different look that just compels me. Its the imperfections that I find most appealing...if that makes sense. I dont fave' many models on this site but shes one of the few. And dude, thanks for the heads-up on Haruna. JEEZ! What a beauty!
Regarding "the glory days", I think the best art in the last 25 years is being produced right now.

Where? Sequential wise, we've seen some big shake ups, but where specifically are you looking at? It's funny, but a friend of mine pointed out that the big name artists right now have been in the industry for over 10 years or more already. It doesn't get any better than Richard Isanove, Mark Bagley, Karl Story, Brian Stelfreeze and Dave Stewart, but while they're admittedly good, I can't help miss some of their past work. Like Richard Isanove colouring comics. He's one of the reasons why I'm a colourist myself.
And Laura Martin is moving on to greater and greater things each month, but I used to read some of her instructional essays from way back and I became attached to her work then. Can't help myself- I miss colours by Wildstorm FX from back in the day.

Absolutely. Jim Lee, Travis, Mignola, Adam Hughes, Art Adams, Joe Mad', Leinil Yu...I could go on and on. All of these guys and more are producing work light years beyond what the were doing back then. There are definitely some who may not have kept up with the rat race but I think theyre in the minority.

I agree that Art would be great on Larocca's art, but I don't think you give yourself enough credit. You've done a lot of nice texture work and line variety here that definitely compliments the pencils. About the only guy you were kinda weird on was JR Jr LOL..and I don't even think that was your choice from the sound of it.

I remember this one from the solicitations. They ended up going with the Mystique cover. And a few years later the other #388 cover surfaced the net, too, the one with Cable and Storm. Thanks for posting! Never saw a clear copy of this before.
