Description:

The Royal-class Star Destroyer was a model of front-line capital ships used by the Galactic Empire starting in 8 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). Originally developed as a replacement for the Victory-class Star Destroyer , however things did not go as planned. While the Royal-class was a decent capital ship, the Victory-class was an already tried and tested concept and thus many Imperial Admirals, and Captains decided to stick with the Victory-class. That's to not say the Royal-class didn't see wide spread use across the Empire.

Sent to the Mid, and Outer rim territories as a patrol, and power projection cruiser, the Royal-class found new life as it was more economically viable to use in these low-threat areas over the Imperial-class. Further more, a large area of these regions lacked the infrastructure to support a vessel the size of the Imperial-class, and since most Imperial-class captains wanted the Victory-class as escorts, this left the door wide open for the Royal-class. However this led to the Royal-class to take a back seat in the wider Galactic Civil War as the areas the ship was sent to were either not actively rebelling, or merely not a threat to Imperial assets. This did save many Royal-class star destroyers from being destroyed in combat, and following the Battle of Endor, and Jakku, it was among the most numerous Imperial warship still in use.

Many Imperial Remnant factions used the Royal-class as their main warship in place of the Imperial-class, or at the very least, used as a supplement. Among these factions, the Imperial Coalition was among the largest to use these ships, and used them for the longest as it wasn't till the introduction of the Defendere-class Star Destroyer  that talks of retiring this versatile warship was even brought up.
