The 8.8cm KwK 43 tank gun was developed during World War Two for use by the German Wehmacht. It was primarily used on German tanks such as the Panzer VI Ausf B "King Tiger" and a tank destroyer/field gun variant known as the "Pak 43" was used on tanks such as the JagdPanther, and Elefant.
At first the gun had what was known as a "monobloc" barrel, basically the entire barrel was a single piece, but due to the gun's massive muzzle velocity, later models were made from two separate pieces which had no effect on performance, but greatly reduced wear on the barrel, and made changing out worn barrels faster and easier. The gun could shoot APCBC (PzGr. 39/43), APCR (PzGr. 40/43), or HEAT rounds (Gr. 39/3 HL). The gun had a barrel length of 6,248 mm which gave the gun a caliber of 71. During the war, the KwK 43 was virtually unmatched and could penetrate the front of almost any Allied tanks are exceptional ranges.
