The T-150 was based off the KV-1 heavy tank, though now having thicker armor and a commander copula. The previous 600 HP V-2K engine was replaced with the 700 hp V-5 engine as the thicker armor caused the tank's weight to reach 50 tons. The tank was built from the requests made on June 17th, 1940, and on March 15th, 1941, the T-150 was accepted into service as the KV-3. Though only a single prototype was ever constructed, and it was later destroyed during the siege of Leningrad in 1941.
