Description Day 5
John Singer Sargent, Lady Agnew of Lochnaw

I'll be honest. I've been trying very hard to stick to the 1 hour thing from the original challenge, and I've been managing quite well. But this took me.. drum roll.. one year. I've been sitting on this since last year. it's disgraceful. I picked it up again after ages and ages and found it was so disgusting that I knew I would be fixing and redrawing everything throughout. I can't believe how bad I was lmao

Other studies (or original pieces, for the first one) from the same challenge, in chronological order -

not harsh at all, it's completely deserved haha   i really appreciate your feedback, it's very helpful! i've never had the honour to see this one in person but i still love it to death.

thank you!

I'm Glad it helps. But I wish i could edit it for grammatical clarity though. Someone was talking to me while i was writing it so my wording and rewording got a bit jumbled.
But what-ever-the-case, I'm glad you were able to comprehend it.

Lady Agnew of Lochnaw is a beautiful piece to study. You did a good job with the background especially with how difficult it is to make out the characters behind the chair. The chair however, seems a bit rushed especially with the details on the arm and back. You did a good interpretation of the flowers in red and blue however forgot the green leaves. You did a lot better then the original artist on the hair. The colors on the face seem a bit blotchy and mismatched. Such as the highlights on the forehead and the cheek area. Both seem to stand out as if she had paint or white makeup on rather then light reflecting back. The proportions on the face are accurate and in line with the original painting. On her dress it is unclear if you were trying to do the flower that's there in the original or if it is colors of the dress. The shadow on her shoulder extends a little to far out as if it's not a shadow from the dress but something above her instead. The original painting is hard to follow on how the dress is laid out and I think you did a fantastic job off interpreting it. Over all a very lovely piece.

Beautiful!
Better than anything I could do right!
I have a few eyeballers I suppose I would should out to you and I'm hoping you appreciate the help! If not oh well! It's ok e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> Just putting in my 2 cents!
The clothing in the front of the knee looks too painterly and it feels as though it fades off in detail compared to the face area, as does the background.
I'm assuming it's done to guide the air closer to the center focal area where the face is and that's cool, especially for a study or a quick concept, but as for an illustration I'd say try and complete the outer edges in detail as much as the inner areas. That's just me e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> I feel like the only other place that could use some defining would be around her neck and collar bone area. It appears at first glance like the clothing seeps into her skin near the light areas.
I do hope the check ins help with your next works or if you happen to continue on this one!
Great damn job! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>
