yessa, haven't really shopped around the art school scene, but my experience here has been a real good one.

so are you majoring in character development or character design or something?
and are you working in Painter?
are all the kids there really amazing?
oh the questions

nah, i'm leaning more towards doing visual development, with an emphasis on character design. Yea, i'm photoshop retarded, so painter only for me. Well, there is a mixed bunch, yknow, top of the class all the way down to "man, why are you in art school?"

well at least it sounds like there's a good chunk of amazing kids... and the difference between the good and the bad is prolly so big that you don'[t need to worry about being dragged down by em
it's open admissions, right? and an entirely full bank account too from what I understand O_x

TinyPEN15 In reply to e-tahn [2007-05-22 22:52:21 +0000 UTC]

yea, open admissions, no portfolio review.. and yes, a full bank account or a shit load of loans will guarantee you a spot in there.

egads.
Have you taken a look at the animation department? Do you know if kids get hired to places like Pixar as soon as they graduate-- or are highly valued interns or anything? oh the curiosity ensues
thanks for all your feedback, btw!!! I'm glad I can talk with someone who goes there.

no problem, if you have any questions, feel free to IM me, if you have AIM. You have to be insanely good to be hired right out of school.. even though they boast an 85 percent employment rate after graduation, most of that percentage is doing some sort of art related job, but hardly ever a dream job. There are always internships available.

Thanks, I'll add you to my IM list, I'm ihaveagcn .
Yeah I think I'd prolly look at an internship at somewhere like Pixar/Dreamworks and then try to get a real job from there, hopefully that's possible!

that is some fackin awesome shadin ya got there. wicked highlights! what kind of pencil strokes do you use to get the gentle texture and gradual shading

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyPEN15 In reply to AlleywayNightscholar [2005-09-07 04:57:17 +0000 UTC]

Eh, I just use a mechanical pencil and build on it, sometimes i smear to show more gradual transition, but usually just lines going with the form. I hardly ever smear the white pastel though.

AlleywayNightscholar In reply to TinyPEN15 [2005-09-07 17:04:07 +0000 UTC]

do you do anything to keep the pastel sharp?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyPEN15 In reply to AlleywayNightscholar [2005-09-07 19:28:14 +0000 UTC]

not really, i generally keep the pastel pencil relatively dull, unless i need a sharp highlight
