Description
Howdy all, as you may have noticed, in my last poll, I asked you guys if you'd be interested in doing a character-based Q&A with my Superverse OCs Yin & Yang, as you see them above. Since the results of that poll came in, I've been at work on the picture you see here, which I chose to line and color just because that gets a bit more attention. That said, this post will have a rather lengthy description once its all done, due to the nature of the format demanding a thorough explanation, and later the inclusion of questions and answers. I apologize for the length at the time of typing this out, but there is no other way. As an added note, I took the opportunity to make this Q&A post the introductory image for two supporting cast members for the New Shanghai setting, and the superhero duo you see above on the left. These two new characters being Hsia-Li an internationally renowned Reporter and her Camera-woman Stacy Canton, who will cover an abundance of scenes of Yin & Yang, their supervillains and the goings on of New Shanghai City regardless of the risk. The two are essentially providing an in-universe reason for the heroines to be taking such questions. Also the comments I had them making are just a bit of flavor text to display their personalities. Expect to see more of them in the future. And as a last note, I included the Yin & Yang logo in the top left corner as a sort of 'title stamp' for this official entry into the Superverse's first Q&A.
Anyways, onto the actual Question & Answer session rules;
How does this work? Simple. You type a question below in the comments, specifically indicating who it's for by using the indicators in the format shown in the examples below this paragraph. Please keep things within the format too, as this Q&A is made for you guys to ask questions of the characters themselves, who will answer all questions in-character, and as if it was something asked of them in person as well. So don't ask me (the artist) things, and so on. Feel free to get silly if you so choose with the questions, as this is a page-wide exercise just for fun.
Format examples;
(Yin) - a question for Yin alone
(Yang) - a question for Yang alone
(Both) - a question for the duo together
(City) - a question about New Shanghai City itself
(Evil) - a question regarding what the Heroines think one of their baddies might think
(Report) - a question for the Reporter herself, generally in regards to the superheroes
Let's say you had a question for Yin:
Q: (Yin) What is your costume motif based on?
A: Yin: "Oh, that's a common but good question I get on a regular basis. As you might pick up on, the Avian theme is largely what it's going for as it is a reference to the Phoenix. In Chinese legends, and throughout History, the Phoenix, be it the "Vermilion Bird" or the Fenghuang itself was the Imperial icon and symbol of the Empress of China."
hopefully that makes sense. And now, without further adieu, feel free to post your comments below. As long as they are in the correct format, I will get them ASAP, copy them, and paste them below in the Q&A section, and respond to them as best as possible in-character, as each persona would.
Questions & Answers:
Q: (both) - hey, so, how do you both feel of being a team?
A: Yin: "Well that's essentially the nature of our mantle. As avatars of Balance, just like our symbol, the ancient concept and our namesake states, you cannot have Yin without Yang. I guess you could say it started as a natural extension of our sisterhood, we were always a pair of siblings with a great amount of duality, opposites but not adversaries." Yang: "Geez Yin, I don't think this dude wanted a lecture, save the speeches for those dorky theater classes of your's." *Her sister in Red scowls at her* "Anyways, what's she's saying is; it's definitely quite the experience, but we were born a duo and wound up one under these mantles. Red's the booky one who usually handles the talky stuff and fusses about plans all the time. I break evil things, beat down baddies and look good doing it. We do make a good team tho." *various flexing motions as she talks* Yin: "Yeah more or less what she said."
Q: (Both) Anyone in particular you'd like to team up with in the future?
A: Yin: *lifts a finger as she starts to talk* Yang: "Ooooo sorry Sis, me first this time. I need to get that Luna Hawk's number, her suit has just the right mix of edgy and sexy IMO. And that 'Nereid' fish-chick would probably be handy when we have to fight those Elementals again. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to try hitting the manifestation of water? Girl, call me!" Yin: *shooting her sister a grumbly looking expression through her mask* "Aaaaaaaaanyways, for me, I always wanted to see one of those shows that Razzle Dazzle gal puts on, she always has cute outfits and fun acts, and I do know a thing or two about magic myself. Let's see... Nova Girl and her cosmic magic seems intriguing, Ivory Swan's shtick seems like it'd go well with mine. Then in the interest of time... Silver Shadow, most of that 'Epsillon Force' over in Japan, China's Guardians Seven and those Teen Guardians kids too!"
Q: (Both) Wich one of your villain roster do you prefer getting tied up by and why.
A: Yin: "Tied up specifically? Huh that's a tough one, because I imagine both of us would say all of them, so they don't hurt people, since they're all pretty destructive in their own ways." *she pauses for a moment* Yang: "Sis, you HAVE to bring up Void & Ruin, they're leagues ahead of the rest of our whole Rogue's Gallery... Beings of Entropy and all, I'm not sure anything's gonna hold them for long." *the tension in the room noticeably spikes at the mention of those two evil figures, an awkward, and somewhat chilling silence gripping the room for a long moment* "But it would be hilarious to give that Jade Naga weirdo a taste of her own medicine. Talk about a control freak!" Yin: "Fair points. I'd probably mention the Zodiac Gang myself, but there's twelve members in total, all super powered and obnoxious in their own right." *the sister in green nods in approval at all of this*
Q: (Both) Although I have no doubts as to your capability and courage, are their any bad guys/girls out there who make you nervous?
A: Yin & Yang: *in unison* "Void & Ruin for sure."
Q2: (Both) Speaking of villains, what from your experience was the greatest escape you've pulled off from one of the terrifying death traps those types tend to be so fond of?
A: Yin: "Death traps? Well any fight with Void & Ruin is always a matter of all or nothing... beings like that who are single-minded in their one true goal, in this case being the annihilation of all things are essentially like their own death traps. If that makes any sense." Yang: "While I don't think that's what they meant, I agree, though laying traps isn't really Ruin's style. Void is the schemer as you know Yin, since she has a thing for you." *The room looks even more restless at the additional mention of the name*
Q3: (Both) As everyone knows the Red Panda Spynet is a very useful asset to any heroine, provided you can bribe them with the necessary amount of snacks. Was there ever a time you've needed to contact one of their representatives stationed in New Shanghai, or just wanted to?
A: Yin: "Of course! The two of us have met the Amazing Red Panda and her actual Panda pal Pin-Pin before, and while they're not based in our City, they've visited us before. It was fun!" Yang: "Yeah that fluffy little shit was a riot."
Q: (Yang) - Bit of a silly question unrelated to superheroics but since you also do modeling felt it wouldn't hurt to ask. Which is your preferred swimsuit type One Piece or Bikini?
A: Yang: "Well Secret Identities still being a thing and all, But I personally know a few models so I can still answer this for ya. You don't get wild and lurk through the night life in this bumpin City like I do in a One Piece. Does any chick wear those past age Twelve anymore? Bikinis are the only way to go pal."
Q: (Both) Would you two ever like to join the ranks of the GJA, or are you cool with just being heroes in New Shanghai?
A: Yang: "Woah, now that's a question. Do you think they'd even have us?" Yin: "Quite the question indeed." *Yin nodded as she said this* "But I think I speak for both of us when I say we would be honored to join the Alliance, though things at that global level seem to be pretty intense. All the while, our responsibility to New Shanghai, our home city remains. Especially with Voi-" *she looks around the room, stopping herself before she says the name of the two most sinister supervillains in New Shanghai again, to avoid further tension* "That nemesis duo of our's on the loose, we'd still have to be sure our city remains safe too." Yang: "I'd love a chance to throw down with the best of the best though! They always deal with the most bad assingest things, and I hear their space station is like a resort for Superheroes!" Yin: "Indeed, it would be quite the privilege to even be considered among the GJA's affiliate ranks, like the various National Super-Teams around the globe." Yang: "That too. But like red said, we do have a duty to our home town here, and we will never let that slip." *as she says this, loads of news staff respond with smiles or nods*
Q: (Both) What are your favourite foods?
A: Yin: "Ohohoho, now there's one I can answer in detail." *the one in the red costume piped up* "Well I can go for anything from simple Guǎng shì chǎofàn, or Cantonese-style Fried Rice to suànróng zhēng shànbèi (steamed scallops) and báizhuóxiā (white boiled shrimp), and Chow Mein is good too. As you can tell I love me some seafood, and not just the Cantonese stuff that said." *Yang shakes her head slightly, while looking at her sister* Yang: "Really Yin? You're drifting into Cantonese rambling again, we get it, you're cultured, and you probably lost half the white dudes asking you these things ya nerd." *The eyes on Yin's mask narrowed at Yang in making a disgusted look while Yang chuckled* "Now that Red's done rambling, I'm not really picky when it comes to eating, as I'll eat just about anything. Especially if it comes with some kind of booze or wine, it's always hilarious when most dudes realize how fast I can out-drink them..." *Yin scoffs* Yin: "I keep telling you you've got an alcoholic problem sis. And you just admitted it on the News." *Reporter Hsia-Li's face becomes a mixture of confusion and amusement at the back and forth* Yang: "Yeah whatever Yin, not all of us fuss about Lao Tzu's definition of ideal living like you do. Anyhoo, I've definitely got a thing for the quick and easy stuff as I get the munchies more often than pure hunger, and I do have a sweet tooth too."
Q: (Both) - What villains do you both feel like pose the biggest threats to New Shanghai and why?
A: Yin: "Well this question is kind of loaded since the greatest threat to our City here isn't just a threat to New Shanghai at all. I'll tackle this one like a two-parter because of that, and the fact that New Shanghai does have specific problems." *Yin pauses briefly and pulls out a handheld device, handing it over to one of the News staff so they can play a clip* "Since we've already sufficiently creeped everyone out before, we might as well talk about the Elephant in the room first. What you're about to see is footage I received of the first time Yang and I ran into Void & Ruin. Roll the clip please?"
*the video comes up on a screen via a projector behind the two heroines and reporter on a wall so all in the room can see, while it simultaneously plays on TVs at home* **a somewhat naturally shaky phone camera catches the barest glint of two deep purple blurs that drop from the greyish black clouded sky, growing gradually larger as they carve a jagged, rapidly jolting pair of lines through the entire outer facade of a 34 story office building. What follows sounds like the impact of two bombs slamming into the ground, only half a street-length away from the person filming all of this. The forms of the two heroines just arriving from offscreen appearing near the impact site as the now empty building starts to split in two, as if it had been some kind of massive metallic egg cut by a jumpy laser. Then, out of the smoke steps the visage of two figures; one hulking 7-foot tall, purple masculine one, whose immense muscular arms resemble the size of thick tree trunks more than anything of flesh and bone. And in front of that, a far more slender and soft looking, but still twisted and demonic sort of apparition of a feminine form. The female-like one's snow-white toned, mask-like face seemed to light up as the camera zoomed in, just enough to see the two jagged red slits for irises within the black pits for eyes the creature widened and then narrowed as an increasingly inhuman smile formed across her face, gazing upon the duo of heroes before them. Then, what sounded like a booming, reverberation of her voice filled the voices and minds of seemingly everyone in New Shanghai City; "And so the dance begins again! How predictable you obnoxious little mortals are, scurrying about like any other insipid, festering rot you call life does on this rock! Your champions have fought arrogantly since far longer than any iteration of your aberrant Civilization can remember, and yet time and again we return, as your heroes resist the inevitable fate, the doom of all that is. Know that today the vanguard of your undoing arrives as the Master will not be denied! Your cities will crumble, as your world withers and burns!" *the two shadowy entities are then followed by the camera as they fully exit the debris field and smoke, standing on a pile of rubble just 10 feet away from Yin & Yang on video* *with this the so-called Void & Ruin leap forward with unnatural speed, their forms appearing far more jagged and wicked looking than before as they howl in unison* "WUJI (Basically the void, emptiness, and the absence of balance, or Yin & Yang) AWAITS!" and the footage ends*
Yin: *looking around for a second at the obviously tense and quiet room she starts again* "Yeah, that says it all better than anyone can... In terms of just our City though? Probably the New Shanghai Demons Gang, who, for those not in the know, are basically like our city's Triad Gang or Chinese mafia if you prefer that. Or the Zodiac Gang because of their Historical roots and complications with the general public." *the mood of the room returns to normal as she finishes* Yang: "Yeah. What she said, except the TLDR version from me."
