Description
This is Mercy, arguably the main protagonist of Chains of Destiny, the D&D story I mentioned in my earlier journal.
Mercy is a Cambion, or Alu-Fiend, the semi-mortal offspring of a devil and a human. Her father is a mighty Forge Devil, by the name of Sartael Fellborn. Her mother was a member of the Ophidian Guard, a fascistic religious cult serving the Goddess of Manipulation and control. This is not a good combination.
Spending her entire childhood being trained as a weapon for the Ophidians, Mercy's life changed dramatically when her father essentially threatened the other protagonists into aiding in her liberation. Their path to do so eventually led them to the Feywild, where Mercy was unexpectedly adopted by the Spring Queen.
Now going by Mercy Corwin, the Unbound Child of Three Worlds was finally free to spread her wings and fight against her former oppressors.
Mechanically, Mercy is built as a Winged Tiefling, as the other powers possessed by Monster Manual Cambions are initially not available to her, and take a while to be mastered. She also just prefers not to use some of them, as one just teleports her to her father's home, and others involve mind-altering effects, which make her distinctly uncomfortable. Class-wise, she starts as an Oath of Conquest Paladin, before switching to Oath of the Ancients after she gains her freedom. Befitting this build, her primary statistics are Strength and Charisma.
Besides her standard PC-grade powers, she also possesses fire ray that can be projected from her hands or mouth, and as she gets more powerful, it can be focused into a plasma ray that can cause significant damage to even beings that would typically be immune to the effects of fire damage. However, her most notable ability is one inherented from her father.
Sartael is a mutant, his body uniquely adaptable in a way that allows him to shapeshift. All of his children have inherited this power, though Mercy's access to it is limited by her Devilish side being suppressed for much of her life. The ability responds to her emotions, with rage being particularly good at causing her to alter herself into a more powerful, taller, and aggressive appearance. Initially this actually causes her pain and some minor bleeding, and she finds it difficult to move her soft tissues out of the way of her growing bones, but she eventually gets the hang of the precise mental control over her body that the power needs to operate.
Mercy wears the Steelwood Aegis, a suit of organic armour that grows around her body at her command, obtained from her mental connection to her adoptive mother. She wields a holy sword named Hope and an unholy sword named Faith.
Mercy is aromantic asexual, like myself.
She has a somewhat naive outlook due to her unfortunate upbringing, and is initially mostly illiterate.
