Description One definition that Merriam Webster provides for idolatry as the immoderate attachment or devotion to something...

What's yours?

Shown pretty much as rendered in Apo 2.08. The render took over 30 hours to complete, but I think that it was worth the wait.

What do you think?

for sure worth the wait

Thanks for the compliment and the fave Dave! I'm hoping to eventually get back to doing some more work with epispirals like this one once I've gotten to the bottom of the rototube set I'm working on. I just completed another 3-day render for a photomanip collab - so things are really going slow

I just got a new computer . to test the rendering speed I started a previous rendering that I know took 15.5 hours to render and it only takes 2.25 hours now.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to render a couple of flames for me would you? :inserttotallybeyondgreenwithenvyemotehere: I still have seven 3-day renders left to do on my rototubes calendar before Christmas

sure, I don't mind. just specify the settings you want. and email the flames and settings to me. davedartt@gmail.com

Thanks Dave! My latest 3-day render should be done tonight. That'll free up my Apo to grab some params (I'm so maxed when I render that I virtually can't use my PC for anything lest she crash - very ungood when that happens at the 71st hour). I'll choose a couple that I'm hoping you'll find interesting from both an esthetic and technical standpoint...

I love this. The stain-glass effect really gives it a church-like quality, strengthened by the shape and colors.

It almost look as if there was a bishop's mitre reflected in it !

Thanks for the wonderful comment and the Isabelle! I really appreciate that you picked up on all of the elements that inspired the title of this piece. In fact the bishop's mitre was among the first things that struck me as well...

I can see the quality, it is a very un-apo looking fractal.

Thanks for the compliment on the quality Molly! I'm not sure what you mean about "un-apo" though ... one of the things that never ceases to amaze me about Apo is the incredible variety of things fractalists can coax out of it - but I suppose that's why we all love it so much - well that and the fact that it's free...

I think when fractals that are super smooth like this one look more like UF than apo.

It might be a matter of patience for good high quality renders to get results so silky.

Free is good : )

Thanks for the compliment Molly. I actually had wanted to try UF at one point - but then I barely have enough time to play with Apo as things already stand

The long renders really can tax one's patience...I lost a new 60h render over the weekend when we got hit with a brown out half way through it...back to the drawing board (sigh)

I have lost my fair share as well.

I have been so busy the past couple of days I haven't had an opportunity to render any recently

I just re-started it...should be ready by Saturday I suppose. I'll have to put my rotational experiments on hold in the meanwhile (sigh)...

Love it! Great use of colour, and the glass and symmetrical effects work well. Awesome job man!

Thanks for the compliment and the fave Jack! BTW: This was done in the same style as "Deadwing" but using a new gradient that I made up.
