Description There's another Megaman X fan game on the horizon called Megaman X: Variable Zero. I'm one of the guys helping flesh out the concepts for the mavericks that'll appear in it.

This guy is called Bunker Cicada, and I imagined his fight to go in two stages much like Morph Moth's fight in Megaman X2. The first part of the fight he's in his shell, and midway through the shell explodes, he pops wings out of his back and takes to the air.

The project's head, Dracula9AntiChapel , has already got his stage music going which you can listen to here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB0w5Cā€¦

Oh, cicadas are the worst. They chirp and chatter throughout the summer months nonstop, and I hear they're especially populous in Japan.

Insect based robots are some of my favorites, and this take on a cicada and its molting pattern is inspired. The brown colors and hydraulic arms give the character a definite 'working class' feel.

Thanks so much for saying so. Insect robots are some of my favorites too, and I really wanted him to have that working class feel you mentioned, so I'm happy that came across.

Great design, reminds me of a cross between Moth,Mantis and Trilobyte and maybe a little of Hornet.

Thanks, Appleman!

Like I said, it's nowhere near as drastic as your idea; all I did was drop the shell and add wings. A full-on transformation would have been more thematically correct but I also imagined it'd take a lot more work to sprite and code into the game. That said your design is really fantastic.

Yeah, as it is I imagine the blockiness of some of his anatomy here (mostly his feet) will be a challenge to get readable in sprite form...but then, I like a good challenge, so we'll see.

There are a lot of details in these designs that have to be compromised when they're transferred to game form anyway, especially considering he'll be going to a 16-bit style, so just do your best and tweak what you need to to make it work. I'm not gonna flip my lid if you have to change something. I'm only concerned with making a cool picture and getting a design you like; your job's much more difficult.
